EARLY ACCESS: Alice in Borderland 2x2 FULL REACTION

Comments

Yuck, niragi spitting blood like a spitting lama lol. Kudo to the actor coz I really hate that character :D PS. Yamapi is such a distraction. Very happy to see him play here, been a while since I saw him in a drama. But sir, get dressed please.

Rena Unnie

Great reaction you guys! Kyuma is one of my favorite characters, he just comes at you completely open and honest. To my knowledge, you aren't able to adjust your points after the game starts.

The 90s alt band comments, ouch guys, lol. I'm one of those that never really grew out of grunge (not that i was ever in a band, just a kid at that time). I also grew up in a poor rural area, so we were naturally grungry, lol. Formative years habits/styles are hard to change. Pacing in shows is often preferential, I find. I like the pacing in Borderland overall, especially with the information they drop in each episode--regardless of how much 'action' there is. I've wondered if there isn't something to it culturally because, for example, One Piece has a crazy number of episodes but the amount of Filler is debated (hardcore fans say there is minimal, but more casual viewers think there was a lot). I'm not a hardcore fan (didn't get very far into the Manga before life circs made me step away and I never picked it up again) but from hearing discussion in the community, it seemed like there were chunks that seemed like Filler at the time that later turned out to be lore drops. But again, because of pacing, it wasn't apparent until way later. In the Western world we would call it retconning or w/e, but it may just be a normal kind of storytelling in Asia. Idk. Just an observation. Not looking to get into a debate with One Peice fans (I already admitted I'd not read/seen much of the series so don't come at me). EDIT: Forgot to say: love the 'What is the real world?' convo with the king. Aside from the overall topsy-turvy theme for Wonderland (so Alice questions reality A LOT), it's specifically made me think of Alice & Tweedledee/dum talking about the dreaming Red King and whose reality they were actually in ('you don't suppose those are real tears?'). Which also inspired the line in the Matrix: 'Do you think that's air you're breathing?' There's not many strong parallels to that one except for a king being involved, but that's what made me think of it, lol.

Btw guys, just a little tidbit: Apparently in the manga, Niragi was the one who came up with the plan that Arisu did at the later half of the episode. I think his specialty in the games (in the manga) was actually the Diamond cards, meaning he’s actually really smart too, hence you’ll probably figure out why he’s like the nemesis of one of our main/side(?) characters that’ll appear on the next game ☺️ Trying to avoid spoilers as much as I can but yup

Tricee XO

Oh i’m excited for the next game. My fave game and character 🤭

Tricee XO

This game is lowkey kinda fun to play, minus the lasers and dying part

TheMilkMan

Do remember that the witch game was 3 episodes. The 1 game 1 episode mantra never really existed. This episode was solely to humanize the face card leaders.

I do agree that this particular game was dragged out a little too much, but I think it's because they had a famous Japanese singer/actor as a guest star so they gave him a bit more screen time. At least that's what I heard. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the game. It's a breath of fresh air to see a "bad guy" not actually a bad guy. Also, to answer Mason Quinn's question, this band has played games before, won and now became citizens. I can't say how because that's a spoiler. This particular game in general, is the one that they've never played before because they just invented it. Also, from your reactions on the cliffhanger was hilarious because now you guys know how we feel when we wait for your reaction once a week :P

Also, even though this episode seems a bit slow, the fact that it’s bleeded into the next episode just makes the next episode one of the greatest episodes of this show because of the wild conclusion of the King of Clubs game, not to mention the next game being one of many people’s favourites.

WHY

There’re gonna be lots of cliffhangers in season 2. That said, it doesn’t necessarily mean that all the games are as “stretched” as this one or are always going to bleed into the next/next two episodes. To be fair, I wouldn’t agree that this game is “stretched” even though there’re long dialogues and the pacing is a bit slow. This game together with the dialogues serve important purposes: 1) To give a little bit of hints what kind of world is this. To give information that all the players have to fight against the Kings/Queen/Jack (i.e. the citizens of this world) to win the games. 2) Searching for your true self and your true character - the King of Clubs being naked is indeed consistent with his emphasis on showing the true nature of oneself. 3) Comparing equality vs inequality - the King of Clubs sees equality as the most important thing in teamwork whereas Arisu’s team members aren’t equal; (as Oak greatly pointed out) they’ve only just met each others in this world and they had conflicts/arguments before, even Arisu and Usagi have disagreements as to whether to return to the original world. The backstory of the King of Clubs is not there to make you sympathise with the characters (even though he is indeed the kindest King out of all), but it’s more there to show his ideals while at the same time bring out Arisu’s true character.

WHY

As a binger, I like the format of the episodes because they lead you to the next. As a weekly watch, it's so frustrating and I agree with DD. They stretched the game that should've been done in 20 minutes max, not stretched going on 3 episodes now. I love the king but the game in general was lackluster for me (although Usagi's run/chase was amazing). There are far better games this season that they could've stretched if they had to, this wasn't one of them. The king only gave us one insight so far into the world (citizens), so it wasn't like he was breaking down Borderland to everyone. There was zero need for this game to take up so much real estate. But that's not to say this isn't still a great show. First watch, as a binger, you don't really notice. But on multiple watches, and especially with the episodes spread out, things stand out like the pacing. And I remember being upset because this was supposed to be the final season (I wish people didn't post spoilers on s1 finale) and this game was taking up so much time.

Megan

The next episode together with the next game are gonna be sick, I assure you🔥 Also, the conclusion of this King of Clubs game is wild, you wouldn’t even have imagined.
