The thing that makes me so upset about Naomiโs fate is the fact her fiance (Raye Penber) is directly responsible for it. Naomi was a damn good agent (better than him, for sure) but Raye demeaned, reduced, and devalued her intellect and skill to the point she lost confidence in her own capabilities. And for someone to see those things as a positive, and offer to let her have a chance to reclaim a part of herself that was suppressed? Of course she fell for it. If pre-relationship Naomi had been in this situation, she would have never been duped. Lightโs manipulation wasnโt that good or subtle, and had already been setting off warning flags for her before he tapped into her insecurity. Light was only able to manipulate her because she had been primed for it; her fiance gave him a perfect avenue.

Taunting her is another. Revelling in it is abhorrent. I'll never forget this episode. Fantastic reaction and conversation afterwards. Can't wait to go on

Light could've just let Naomi and Raye die without finding out who Kira is but he has to get the satisfaction that THEY know who killed them. WW couldn't let Gale take the credit of being Heisenberg because of his ego. Light and WW both want people to know that they're better/smarter than everyone.

2024-12-16 23:55:31 +0000 UTCSomething I always found "so interesting" to quote Ryuk was that near the end Ryuk's reaction and laughter was caused because he saw Naomi's lifespan change after asking Light to allow her into the task force. Light figures out why Ryuk was laughing whenever her name came up and we hear those inner thoughts in the episode but when you remember that Shinigami not only see names but the time remaining on human life the scene becomes that much darker for me. It's like a snapshot on Naomi signing her life over to Light.

2024-12-16 21:19:43 +0000 UTCThe best part of Cat and Mouse shows imo is how the villain performs. Every show can make a likable good guy. True writing is making a hateworthy but extremely competent villain. Love how this episode is just dialogue but it kept you on the edge of your seat the whole 20 minutes. Naomi had a lot of potential but the author has stated in interviews that she was Too Smart for the balance in the story between Light and L and this had to be the result. Also, You would be an amazing watch.
