so much delay

Rejoining Patreon for BAND OF BROTHERS!!!!!!!! The first time I watched this series was D-Day 2017. I haven't been the same since. I had no idea it would become one of the biggest, significant core memory/experiences of my life. My cousin got me to watch it with him, which turned out to be rather fortunate for me. Not only was he a huge fan of series but, also, a war history buff in general. We paused every 10-15 minutes for him to answer a question I had or explain something I missed. I learned so much and am still learning stuff to this day. It sent me down a “rabbit hole” I am NOT ready, willing, or able to crawl out of just yet lol. Few facts from the first episode -the main cast went through a 10 day real boot camp. This is where the majority of them met. They completed the boot camp called by the real name of the soldier they were portraying. It was lead by the man who plays Colonel Sink. He's actually a REAL Captain, Dale Dye. -the fence cutting incident was 100% REAL!! The farmer was quote “paid handsomely” by the US Army for the damages!! -the movie that's playing, Mr. Lucky, was the same movie they watched the night before the jump Thank you guys so much for sharing your experience with US. They aren't enough accolades in the world to describe how incredible this series is and, OF COURSE, the real men that actually went thru it!! Top notch from beginning to end.

So funny enough, Currahee is actually deceptively more difficult to run than it appears. you actually have parts on the way down where you have to run uphill if that makes sense. It’s VERY hilly and up and down. So the struggle isn’t done once you get to the top. You can’t just coast all the way down. You also have many uphill portions on the way down. Lol. Also, the Sobel story is incredibly tragic. I will let you gentlemen educate yourselves further. As I don’t want even the most minor of spoilers.

Once you are done with this series, I would recommend you to listen to the Band of Brothers podcast mini-series that came out last year. Each episode (also 10) has one or two interviewees (either the cast, directors, or even Tom Hanks himself, I believe) going through the process and the series. Especially the interviews with the actors and how they met with the veterans that were still alive was very interesting and eye-opening for me.

Marvin Prein

Are you guys doing the pacific to?

DezzCuse

Since you're watching this and Peaky Blinders a fun crossover fact is Damien Lewis (Winters) and Helen McCrory (Aunt Polly) were married up until her unfortunate passing

Tomasina Hill

"Ross, Ben drew you as a 1940s US Airborne Captain!" "Really? Because of the sheepskin jacket?" "Because of the sheepskin jacket."

Rich

Let's goooooo!!!!!!

Oops

Eric Wallace

FINALLY! I am sooo excited for this one. Absolute masterpiece of a show

Dallas wainman

Answer, not Quinn :-)

I'm so glad you guys are watching this. Most of those real veterans from the beginning of the episode were unable to watch when it was done, because it felt too real. The gear, the surroundings, the training, even the banter. It brought back old traumas. The show picked actors who looked like the real soldiers as much as possible. "Band of Brothers" is as close to a dramatised documentary as you can get. It's such a masterpiece.

BEST SHOW EVER!

John Deardurff

i have a rec for in your own time, as a reaction i dont think it would work cause no ones heard of it. But Deadline Gallipoli is a great 3 ep dramatised show, focusing on 3 (real) journalists who followed the australian volunteers in the war. And features the wonderful Charles Dance.

GillyBean

This is gonna be a great rewatch with ya'll. I'm thrilled ya'll are learning about Easy Company and their amazing comradery through WWII. Currahee!!!

I would be remiss if I didn't comment on this video. To my fellow veteran/active duty brothers and sisters in the comments, excuse my cringe for a minute. I am currently an active duty Captain in the United States Army, and this show is the sole reason I chose the life path that I did. I watched it with my Dad at an early age, and I knew from the minute I saw it what I needed to do with my life. From my experience thusfar as a leader in our modern Army, the lessons in this show hold true today. This show demonstrated to me what real, authentic leadership looks like. I modeled my leadership style on Winters, and I hope to someday be half the leader he was. On another note, the tactics, the way military people behave and talk to each other, and the realism of this show is unmatched by anything else I have watched. Thank you guys for watching, I am beyond excited for more episodes!

Michael

One of my favorite short shows of all time

Jordan Grinde

Great reaction. This show is excellent. I'm looking forward to rewatching it with you.

Also to further elaborate on Sobel, his surviving family did indeed take issue with his portrayal here. Much of what is portrayed did happen, such as his attempt to set up Winters with a court-martial, and the mutiny of the NCOs. Commentary from the actual vets are mixed. Some have said that Sobel was so hated that his life was in danger, and Winters also took issue with his general style of commanding by fear instead of respect. Other members of E company said the show painted him in too harsh of a light. I think it's fair to say both could be accurate representations, as different soldiers were bound to have different experiences with the man.

Flubbedsquid

Wow BoB and Peaky? Yall are doing 2 of the shows in my top 10 favorite shows!

Purported74

Sobel, like most characters here, was a real person. He seems to have had a rather tragic life. Some sources say he was very bitter after the war, both towards life and easy company. Whether that's true isn't possible to say for certain, but what is certain is this: in 1970, he attempted suicide by gunshot, but failed, leaving him blind and unable to care for himself. He spent the next 17 years in assisted living, after which he died of malnutrition. No memorial service was held.

Flubbedsquid

Though this does have a few historical inaccuracies, mainly from the show being based on a book on the mens' POVs and stories, and they either forgot some things or got them wrong, or was just changed for the tv format.. Whatever the case may be, this is still one of the best WW2 things out there..I've watched it every year around D-Day for the last decade..But I guess I can watch it again..

Superpotroast

No way. I thought it was just going to be the first time for Diamond Dave. But Oak and Quinn too! Gonna be great reactions

Eric Wallace

I was 11 years old when this came out on HBO. I remember it so well. I have watched this about 100 times already but I'm still here for the ride with you guys. I dare to say that no show or movie ever past, present or future will come close to what Band of Brothers is.

hex1c

Sobel was real, and his characterization matches how the men of Easy Company described him. After you finish the series, there is a documentary film that interviews the still-living-at-the-time members of Easy Company called "We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company". Well worth watching.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

More than 1 episode per weeek!!!!!!! 10/10 show

MateoP

Yes, Captain Herbert Sobel was a real person. He did lose command of Easy Company but he still jumped with them on June 6th and fought in many of the same battles, earning a Bronze Star.

Lauren McIntire

This is VERY unexpected! LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO

Rainy Days

oak your granfather was a legend, thanks to him we have the freedom we do today thankful for his service

Megan Burland

I gen can't argue with this statement.

Rich

I'm really looking forward to watching Oak, Answer, and Dave being like, "Wait, is that... ?" every time a now super famous actor pops up. And there are plenty. Also, I feel like with every new series, reaction, etc, I learn more and more that I have a lot in common with Oak (from being basically the same age, down to a number of other things that he's mentioned, to now noting the being a WW2 buff and having a grandfather who served; my grandfather was a troop transport machine gunner who served under Patton and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and I ended up being a history major with a focus on WW2 and the Holocaust in college. My grandfather also experienced something that happens in the most memorable episode of this series, which I won't mention until we get there because spoilers).

Jeff K

The Silver lining of Sobel is that he made Easy into the best company, extremely close knit and so fit they were allowed to skip a fitness test in a part of the course (I forget exactly what, it's been a while since I read Dick Winters book).

Rich

Leading nicely into November. All give some. Some give all. These boys gave it all and then some.

Rich

Lets fucking go! Hi-ho, Silver!!!

Rich

This and Chernobyl are tied for me as the greatest miniseries of all time.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

YES!!! Hubby and I have been eagerly waiting for this! So excited.

Midgey_M

I watch this series almost every winter. I hope this means you guys are going to react to the Pacific as well.

Johnny Blue

Everyone you meet is a real person, the stories are real. (Some things were changed a bit but we will let y’all know when the time comes)

Cubonemaker

Love this series. My parents used to own the VHS set lol

Kat D.

Ive been waiting for y’all to watch this. One thing to keep in mind while watching is that every actor in this is portraying a real person not just a character.

Monkey

The greatest miniseries in television history. Cannot wait to dive back in.

Jeff K

The epic journey begins!
