The words that Toranaga says to
Yabushige before he commits sepuku-
“Why tell a dead man the future?”
Are the same words that Yabushige told his nephew Omi when Omi asked his uncle (Yabushige) why he wasn’t making Toranaga immediately aware of the barbarian vessel and crew he captured in the first episode.
Because he was under the impression Toranaga was not making it back from Osaka, which is the reason some believe Yabushige smiles back at Toranaga as he commits sepuku.
Acknowledging that he now knows that Omi has possibly been working with Toranaga to replace his uncle as Lord of his fief since the beginning of the show.
Of course this is all subjective and that’s just a theory I’ve heard. It’d be the most coincidentally genius piece script writing I’d seen!

That conversation between Yabushige and Toranaga on the cliff was better than any battle they could have shown for me.

You guys might know this already, but as it came up in the discussion and you were wondering, John Blackthorne IS based on a real guy named William Adams, who is believed to be the first Englishman to ever set foot in Japan. (Just in case you did not already know that by now.)
