This chapter is one that is fairly pivotal in the overall journey for our less-than-friendly Cass Bloomington. In the original oneshot, it's shown that she's particularly rattled by being punished, and that starts her real transformation into a properly behaved citizen. With this reboot/expansion on the story, I wanted to dig a bit deeper into how that exactly ties into her eventual obsession with Doctor Sang. With a man as boring as him, what would lead her to being so devoted to him? This chapter answers that question, while also showing how Cassandra's defenses start to crumble after her failed escape attempt from last chapter.

I think that's definitely accurate. The way I've written Nurse Maddock for example, is partially inspired by stories of abusive nurses who hate their own patients. Whatever it takes to break the patient's will without officially breaking the rules, you know?

I kind of like the implications of these sorts of places being rife with abuse just like actual mental asylums where patients are abused by orderlies when the doctors don't pay attention. But perhaps with less consequences in this world of kinky brainwashing
