Ruthie Jean's High School Reunion: Part 1

Last time we had a story set during the midst of Bet On Black, but this week, we're jumping ahead to after Mya became a permanent resident of the wonderful little town. But Mya, much as I love her, isn't the star of our current story.

This is alllll about Ruthie Jean and her family, baby.

I was actually talking to my partner about Bet On Black and the characters in its cast when I realized that Ruthie Jean and Gabriel would have attended high school together. After all, they're around the same age, she's married to her high school boyfriend, who is himself one of Gabriel's closest and oldest friends. So by all logic, Gabriel and Darryl and Ruthie Jean would have been classmates.

From there, I started thinking more about Ruthie Jean's home life, and her relationship with Darryl, who is probably one of the more surly and difficult husbands in Stepford. I've put a lot of thought into Ruthie Jean and Darryl and their relationship, as well as their relationships with other people in the neighborhood, and I eventually had a very particular realization which this story is going to dig into.
