Bonus: Recurring Stepford Housewives Guide
Added 2022-02-15 17:15:58 +0000 UTCTa-da~ Another piece of bonus content!
I've been fiddling with this one since December, just trying to get it absolutely right. There are a few little easter eggs in there I'm sure you might pick up on, and some hints at potential future stories.
Who is your favorite prominent or recurring Stepford wife from my stories? I'm eager to know!

Don't worry, I love rambly comments! And I do have an idea in the works for an eventual return to Mya and Mallory's story, which will definitely touch on Mallory being nearly unrecognizable after her transformation!

Mya: the protagonist, whose Stepfordization process is necessarily complicated bc it has to fill multiple chapters; and Mallory, the side character whose Stepfordization can be short and clear-cut bc it’s meant for the background. What makes Mya your best hero is that her transformation really is gradual, it’s actually a love story unlike say Bex Myers or even Zoe Brooks who are ultimately just outsmarted or overthrown in one fell swoop totally against their will. Mya comes part of the way on her own, but then takes steps back so forced transformation is still required — it’s the best of both worlds. The fact that Mallory’s transformation also enhances over time is what makes her your best supporting character. Not only do we get the brutality of her initial 180 transformation: we also see how that transformation just continues to get deeper and deeper all the time. She will never change back! Sorry, hope I don’t sound like I’m ranting but I can see ^ I’m not the only one who thinks “Bet on Black” is your best story so far. And “Bet on Red” gave me everything I wanted from a sequel. I certainly wouldn’t mind another check-in at some point: how does Mya raise her kids? How do she and Gabriel keep the flame of their love alive? Does anyone come looking for Mal Holmes and find Mallory Matthews instead? We agree that Mallory’s transformation is basically perfect — so it must have some kind of effect on people! But you’ve built up a whole universe of great characters, as this post makes clear. No need to spend all your time with just a few

I'm definitely in agreement that Mya has the most nuanced stepfordization story (aside from Tanya, but she's disconnected from Stepford), and Mallory has actually become something of a mascot for me lately, haha. I keep commissioning art of her from different artists, since she's such a clear example of my ideal stepfordization before and after!

I particularly love the “favorite song” selections here, they give insights into the characters’ personalities and also give more texture to the world. I like knowing what these characters are watching and listening to. “That Housewife Over There” sounds like a jam haha As for favorites…I’ll always love Zoe as your OG Stepford Wife. She really set the template! But Mya probably has my favorite journey of all your characters, and you can’t beat Mallory as the prime example of punk->housewife

2022-02-15 22:38:26 +0000 UTCHard to choose. Bet on blacks honestly the best story. It focuses on the gradual passive indoctrination of a lady into Stepford. Like the brainwashing was just an extra bit which I like. But I’m a sucker for corporate stuff and life wife’s mascot I’d love to see her more.
