Apple iOS fees to disappear!
Added 2025-05-17 00:07:59 +0000 UTCSo apparently ever since Apple App Store announced the decision to disallow apps to accept payments through payment merchants aside from them, the reason the 30% fee was applied to iOS Patreon sign-ups, there have been legal battles to counter the decision.
Turns out they've gone through, and Apple lost. From the e-mail by Patreon;
"Thanks to a recent U.S. court ruling, Apple must now allow apps to offer U.S. based users checkout options outside of Apple's in-app purchase system (which includes the 30% Apple fee)—something that was previously prohibited under Apple's App Store requirements."
So it sounds like going forward Patreon users coming over from the iOS app will no longer be required to pay the additional 30% fee Apple was applying through their payment service.
