I'm working on the hunger system a little bit for the next update. Right now it seems like no matter how many trees you have it's never enough to sate the monsters. So I did some math and came up with some numbers which should work a lot better.
Under this system the Acorns from 1 Oak Tree should feed 1 monster for the day. An Apple/Orange/Peach Tree would support 2 monsters. Other food will be added in the future and these numbers will probably be tweaked many more times.
Now you can see directly how much Hunger an item will restore when a monster eats it. The Nutritional value is determined when the item is spawned, and decreases as the item decays. It's therefore a good idea to hold onto items if your monsters are not hungry. I thought about adding Troughs to the game, buildable eating areas where you can drop food in to preserve it for longer.
Nutrition is a direct 1-1 effect on Hunger. If an item's Nutritional value is 16, it will restore 16 Hunger. If an item does not display a Nutrition number, it cannot be eaten (seeds and objects). Here's a breif breakdown of the nutritional and decay values in game right now:
Acorn/ Cactus Pear: 15-20 Nutrition, 24 Hour decay
Any Cum or Potion: 2-5 Nutrition, 48 Hour decay
Apple/ Orange/ Peach: 30-40 Nutrition, 24 Hour decay
All Seeds: 0 Nutrition, 36 Hour decay
All Objects: 0 Nutrition, 72 Hour decay
Other information on Trees; they begin yielding fruit after 12 hours, and each fruit takes 8 hours to grow. Therefore each tree yields 3 fruit every 8 hours after 12 hours. In the future better trees will have higher or lower yields and/or quicker or slower growth times.
