Catching up on this week's chapter's after getting lost in Clair Obscur (an absolute masterpiece btw). I got much more excited about God Save the Queen + Meredith Ann than Max did; my thought is that it would cause an overflow and that she would become -1 PA, and maybe at that point her growth is uncapped? They patch the content together from premade pieces, or they don't even patch it together they just pull up the premade piece and play it. The decision of what pieces to patch together, or play, is made by an algorithm that is programed by people. How the algorithm is made depends upon the skill of the programmers. Ask me how if you want the details on how the algorithms are made as it isn't germane to my point, and it ties directly in to a pet peeve about how stupid it is to use AI for most problems. Generative AI makes the content then and there from the prompt and the database it has access to. Well trained generative AI makes up about 20% of the final content it produces out of whole cloth. The cost to create and train a generative AI algorithm that makes 6 second football videos and one that makes a 135 minute video of a full game of football with overtime and a penalty shootout isn't that different. The full game algorithm would be somewhere between 10-70% more expensive to make. The cost of the algorithm is in training, the value of the algorithm is once it is trained it is very cheap to run, whether that is for a 6 second video or a full length cup game. AlphaStar the AI that plays Star Craft cost, as best as can be determined, slightly north of $20 million for every aspect of it. Star Craft is at least 2 orders of magnitude simpler than football, even when you limit it players and coaches to the Soccer Supremo traits. Luckily AI training reduces in costs exponentially compared to the difficulty of the problem. I'd estimate that 6 second clip generative content with the perfectly curated data Max has provided would only cost $200 million to train. I actually think an AI trained to do this is one of the few use cases where AI would be good. Because if done right it could show new formations, new moves, and new types of players that would thrive because of those new discoveries. Any one of those could provide value to a football club in excess of the costs to train the AI.
