Is one or more of Max' guesses right or is it a more personal reason that goes beyond the System's workings? -I genuinely think I'd pay ten dollars a month to get these sent to my inbox twice a week. And I'd understand if you needed to take a break every now and then to keep the quality up.- I see what you did there! Although, isn't it weird for him to say dollars? Ben's morale dropping straight to Abysmal was interesting. Hope he bounces back from it, working on his mistakes as well. As for Emma's inspirational video, I expect it to play a role in getting Max out of his own head and up the morale scale. With all the kick ups this match, I'm sure you could add a few impressive moves to finish the video, which, coupled with honest convos with his support system, should help him see things straight. Speaking of which, I was not a big fan of the latter half of this chapter. While the action was interesting and the tension was palpable, Max' catastrophising was too frustrating to read for me, kinda ruining it a bit. Either way, thank you for the chapter!

2023-10-06 15:58:46 +0000 UTCIt's a nice coincidence that this chapter came out on the same day that Book 3 Chap 31 'In and Out' published on Royal Road. That's the one where Max was filling in for Jackie and the opposing goalie had a worldie....and Chester won by one Henri goal. Same feel to this chapter but Chester came up short even with Max playing.

2023-10-06 15:58:08 +0000 UTCEverything is dialed up to 20 with Max. Also if he's not perfect, he's average and if he's average even with the system, that's a big blow to his self esteem. He still hasn't gotten over the mentality that he'd be nothing without the system.

I get the sense that Max expects to be run out of town as a fraud and for the team to lose faith in him. I think we will see the town buy in even harder to the max best show after he put everything he had into that performance.
