Some have asked me if Yunan had a second parent. Yan originally fed his daughter a line that the noble Lady Longclaw died tragically in childbirth. When Yunan didn't buy that, Yan doubled back and stated that her hussy mother threw the baby at him and told them both to go kick rocks. If he can be believed at all, I'm leaning towards the latter.

I'm just glad he didn't keep her, honestly. She'd be horribly abused or a chip off the old evil block, or both. At least the nuns at Ye Olde Eft Orphanage were nice enough.
