Newt Beginnings

Strap in for just SO much headcanon.  TLDR: I gave them babies because I can't leave well enough alone.

Having helped defeat the big bad and settled in the pastoral countryside, Yunan and Olivia decided they'd like to have a family.  They inquired of the same orphanage where Yunan had spent her childhood and discovered a pair of infants who had been rescued around the same time.  The two were lovely babies, but were a hard sell because neither was actually a newt.  This didn't make any difference to our eager moms, who adopted them readily.  The ladies named their new daughters Alena (after Olivia's mother, according to me) and Marcy (after the human hero to whom they were the closest).  Since they're roughly the same age, the babies are referred to as twins. 

Alena is a hellbender salamander.  She is absolutely huge: she won't cap out as big as Andrias, but their species are closely related.  She WILL, however, tower over her mothers and sister by the time she hits puberty.  Despite her size and strength, Alena is bookish, shy and gentle.  She loves cuddles and likes to feel protected.  Her eyes don't see well and she has to wear glasses; likewise she lost her baby gills very early and suffers from asthma.  The rest of the family tend to coddle her a little, which Alena doesn't really mind.  Life is rough, so get your hugs where you can. 

Conversely, Marcy is a little mudpuppy with the heart of a warrior.  She wants nothing more than to be the greatest fighter Amphibia has ever seen, and she hangs on Cousin Polly's every word.  Marcy and Yunan have a sort of Homer and Bart relationship...so close and similar that they tend to butt heads (usually comically).  Marcy and Alena rarely fight, as Marcy is ferociously loyal to and defensive of her "twin" (she considers herself the elder of the two).  With little sis's book smarts and Marcy's ass-kicking, how can they lose?  

Also, I failed to mention that I gave Olivia the surname "Newton" (just when you thought I was out of puns).  So the girls are Alena Newton and Marceline Wu Newton.  Yunan was an orphan and not given a last name (or in fact a middle name), so she calls herself Yunan Calamity Newton.
