I've been doing research on LGBTQ representation in the media, and when you go looking for stuff, gosh do you find stuff. On my bad days I consider myself something of a charlatan for making my deuteragonist a bisexual woman, since I am not a bisexual woman and do not own that perspective. The deeper you dig, the more problematic it gets (per my research): not only are bi women very poorly represented in media (bi men are consistently ignored, as straight audiences do not differentiate them from gay men), but furthermore bi women and lesbians are apparently diametrically opposed enemies. /Lions/ and /hyenas/. We invariably harm each other with our rhetoric and cannot play on the same team. The real villain depends upon whom you ask. Bummer.
All this said, I can't write from a bi woman's perspective and thereby cannot report as accurately on that front as maybe people would like. I do, however, know Piggy Sue, and I CAN write her. One individual. One person who loves another person, respectfully and honestly. That's all I got for you, folks. Being who she is, Piggy Sue's not going to embrace the stress of trying to do absolutely right by the entire world. I very strongly encourage my readers to pursue the work of a variety of LGBTQ creators. We don't always get along but we ARE stronger together.
Tldr: Research good, too many YouTube dissertations all at once, bad.
