Dude. That scale up, arpeggio down concept is killer. What's not to love about a workout that combines alternate picking, sweeping, scales, arpeggios, theory and fretboard memorization all in one pretty compact workout. Definitely keep the 'sketches' format videos coming...they are awesome!

Definitely answered my questions and even ones I didn’t know I was looking for answers on. Each portion was succinct in its own way which made the video so easy to digest as a whole.

Great video, great playing, man! I enjoy this format very much! Even though, I walked away from most sweep picking stuff since some years, because I don't really like the sound and the nature of it (more or less straight up and down arpeggios). But one thing: at 23:06 you play a demonstration where you clearly use the "paint brush" the wrong way. But it works! :D So here's my take: if you aim for the turnaround to be a downstroke, you tend to angle the pick wrong, in order to do that. Just like pickslanting. I'm one of the 10 % guys that do constant sweeps. And yes, this definitely is a problem area. But for me, it works better this way. Thoughts?

All Bodies by Between the Buried and Me has some three string sweeps that aren't too fast, and move around a decent bit, makes you work out several different patterns

I play with one hand so I skipped this video when it dropped. I mean, how could I benefit from a video on sweep picking when I don’t pick? Then it occurred to me that most everything I do is an adaptation of traditional playing techniques so I figured I might be able to pickup a thing or two that I could use. To my surprise, I got a LOT out of it. Ben’s teaching is so wide ranging and comprehensive I found weeks of exercises (my particular adaptations) and theory to study. And, once again, I was reminded of why I joined the cult…uh, became a patron. This stuff is gold.

I like this 50 minute format. Please don’t cut any part of it.

The sweep + alternate pick down the scale is how I tried to work on this technique recently (with the example of the song "machine" from Born of Osiris), with better success than before (I hope), mostly because even at low speed it does sound good (to me). Would maybe like to see a bit more of that combo from you :)

@uncleben Thought of a new question. How to use sweep picking through a chord progression such as a common 1 4 5... maybe as a transition or turn around, taking a box player like my self from one comfy location to another on the fretboard. Really how to use sweep as a transitionary tool to come off a little flashy while not going so far out, the non guitarist listeners continues to be drawn into a lead vs being put off or overwhelmed with sonic content... additional idea to explore... Doug Rappoport. You should dissect some of his sick playing, maybe even interview him... he has a unique style which can be recognized. I see him employ some sweeps but more as a movement vs pontification... thanks again
