Okay, so... Child Val is obviously terrified of her mother. And her 'one-eyed' persona seems to not be as scared. Did Val as a child decide that in order to protect herself from her mother, she had to make herself tougher and more dangerous than her? Like, this person is strong and hurts me, the only way I can protect myself is to become stronger than she is and hurt her back? That is both increadibly badass and the most heartbreaking thing I've ever heard.
