Nah voice activation is just easier to control than mental signals, so robots tend to pick that. You wouldn't want a passing thought to switch on certain things. Incidentally, her wife's pet name for Iris is Cuddlebot.

If it's under the robots control you'd expect it to just be mental signal, a verbal command only makes sense if it's coming from outside of the chassis, and likely from a source that doesn't have inherent wireless capability. Conclusion: cuttlebutt is not Iris's pet name for her wife but rather her wife's pet name for Iris!
