I agree with you thinking it's going to go the transgender route instead of bipolar. The fact that Matteo didn't say he didn't need someone crazy in his life (his mother) to David is clue number 1. And the other big clue is that last text for sure. There's no reason for David to be so mean if he wasn't trying to protect himself so hard. It's definitely that things got to fast and they got too close that's it's becoming way too real. Poor Matteo. And poor David, too. He clearly is into Matteo, but he's so afraid.
