I didn;t get to finish this episode yet, so I'm not sure they go intot his in this episode... or ever, but apparently when she brought Jace back he was basically newborn, and when babies are born they give them protections against things like demon possession, and had they known Jace had died and come back they could have given those protections again, but as it was he was a blank slate just waiting for the baddies to come on in and use him.
