I agree with you that Clary should not have been so taken aback when Simon said he needs some time. However you should remember that Clary and Simon is only 18 years old and this is basically the first serious relationship for both of them. Simon has been in love with Clary since forever and Clary does not know a life without Simon at her beck and call. I think their love for each other is so deep as friends and that because they are so young they don't know have the experience to understand that you can love someone that deeply without it being a romantic love. Kudos to Izzy for telling Alec to not let Magnus pull away from him. Alec is very lucky to have such a valuable advisor in Izzy while he navigates the intricacies of his first relationship. This episode had me on the floor with my precious babies' hearts breaking.
