An autistic woman’s plans to go to town on herself have been scuppered by the arrival of a non-vibrating fidget spinner falsely advertised online as a “stim toy”, a consumer watchdog has said.
Freya Emerson, 29, ordered the toy last week, which promised to reduce her anxiety and stress. She said: “I thought it was a euphemism.”
“I planned a romantic night in for one. I lit candles. I scattered rose petals. I put on sexy music. What the fuck am I meant to do now? Part two of Bridgerton is up, for fuck’s sake. Am I supposed to watch it for the plot??”
“The only thing it’s good for is strengthening my fingers,” she continued. “Which apparently I now need to do.”
“I’m now more anxious and stressed than ever,” she added. “Thanks for nothing, fidget spinner.”
