The Mobile Anti-riot Squad (ESMAD) is a special unit of the Citizen Security Directorate (DISEC) [1] of the Colombian National Police, created in 1999, whose mission is nominally to control disturbances, in order to reestablish the order and safety of the inhabitants. It is the dependency of the Command of Special Operational Units made up of personnel in charge of controlling disturbances, crowds, blockades, accompanying evictions from public or private spaces, which occur in urban or rural areas of the national territory. This government has used ESMAD forces as puppets to make people disappear.
