So, in a few strips Jess is going to talk about her summer job. The dream job that led her to apply to a university far away from home in the hopes that she could work with a world renowned expert in Brain Implant technology. This is a job offer she's going to lose later in the story because she was recently outed as an X-Rated Sense Streamer.

I'm trying to decide which version of that job would care more about her extra-curricular activities.

Would the university, worried that some donors might withhold funding from brain-implant research if it comes out that the research team includes members who use brain-implants for creating inappropriate material, decide to veto Jess' offer for a research position with the University's world renowned expert on Brain Implants? Is that expert a public figure, and Jess would be expected to travel with them to conferences and presentations?

Or did Jess, due to her grades and connections at school, get offered a research position at Linksoft, headquartered in Seattle, who created the NeuroLink that was implanted in Jess' head? Except due to ongoing controversies with the public about how the NeuroLink is used, the company decides to retract Jess' internship offer, in case it is ever leaked out that Linksoft has hired employees that use implants to create that controversial material?

Or am I overthinking this?
