Extra Stuff - Being Fiona - Phase 2

I've created a few slides discussing where the story might go beyond the outline I created in this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/112641255

Jess and Felix are in for an interesting summer depending on how the story goes!

Space Research: "For the memory of a lifetime, Rekall, Rekall, Rekall~"

Definitely a good idea for Felix to end up with a neural implant.

could go a higher drama route: Felix gets hit by a car and gets the implant to help recover motor function, thus paid for by medical insurance

If I go the mermaid route, Felix/Jess' job would be helping build a few prototypes in a lab, sort of like Boston Dynamics as Bruxius mentioned below. And as for the moon idea, I might take it and incorporate it into a travel game where the characters walk on the moon virtually. And as for Felix getting an implant, I'm not sure if a company would spend that kind of money on an intern who will only be with the company for 4 months. As a test subject perhaps, but the job Felix gets has to be one that Jess wants so badly that she would want to swap bodies with Felix for 4 months. And yeah, it's way too costly for Jess to just pay for the implant. Which is why if a company or organization doesn't pay for it, Jess and Felix will probably have to split the cost and earn some money together to pay for it.

I think the most sensible way for Felix getting an implant is one paid for by some kind of company or organization. A public research lab, a tech startup, maybe the manufacturers of the Dreamband or the implant. As for the reason, it may be a research program that Felix applies to as a bright student, or maybe the startup or manufacturer have noticed some patterns in Felix game / mind data that they are interested in studying. I'm not fond at all about putting mermaids in the "real" world. They were fine in a Dreamband simulation, I prefer they stay there. Same for space research, unless maybe it sticks to low-Earth orbit or the Moon; still I would prefer if "real" characters stay around Seattle rather than disperse around the world. I find that I can project myself more in the Fiona universe when it is closer to our own (as it is up to now) rather than a very different future with space travel and mermaids. I'm also not fond of Jess paying for the implant (too costly, and for what extraordinary reason?) or the wealthy couple idea (way too close to grooming to my taste, and may come with long-term pressure for Felix).

More ideas: 1. Commercial SCUBA divers would jump all over this. Barnacle scrubbing would be so much easier with the use of a tool (mermaid chassis) that didn't need to come up for air. 2. Recreational scuba divers wouldn't have to worry about the bends either. 3. Underwater construction... 4. Kid's birthday parties... lol Tell me if my spamming responses is getting annoying, lol.

Bruxius

To me, it seems plausible that even if Jess is moving away from body rentals, she might be tempted to do one last grand, seemingly unique, gesture (and lots of money) to do the elderly couple's request, and that would get Felix his implant.

I would LOVE to see the mermaid idea. And she can spin her being a sense streamer in a more opportune way. She has extensive and intimate knowledge of the hardware and software. She knows the current upper limits of the technology ,she stays up to date on all the latest industry breakthroughs, she can push the limits of her implant to its absolute maximum. Assuming you are receptive to thislle following idea: Which, all these things, coincidentally, is a good thing since the mermaid chassis she will be piloting is an cybernetic and organic hybrid prototype from this story's equivalent of Boston Dynamics. Those nerds won't care that she's done that kind of stuff. In fact, they would more than likely do their best to protect her identity to keep any such information from going public. I could go on with the applications of a cybernetic and organic hybrid mermaid but this post is kind of running long. The oil industry would fall all over themselves to replace the burdensome logistics of saturation divers with neural link mermaids that they can just "swap out". Hell, the Navy might be able to use it for all sorts of things that aren't even combat related...

Bruxius

This is all very fascinating and can’t wait to see what direction you take the story! Whichever one you choose it will be great

However the story ends up going, seems like it will be very interesting.

The body swap idea also opens up the possibilities of extra juicy drama between Craig and Jess and Craig and Felix, especially if Jess as Felix asks some questions about what he thinks of her. And doubly so if they don't tell Craig about the swap and he somehow finds out.

Thatguywithaname

If Felix gets a job that requires a neurolink implant maybe the implant could be a perk of the job? Then Jess could end up doing the job as Felix (as per slide 5)? I really like the idea of body swapping however it comes about.
