[PATREON EARLY RELEASE] Composing With Double Tresillo (+ Tab + mp3)

LETS MAKE SOME MUSIC! This lesson shows how you can steal a rhythm pattern and grow it into an entire piece of music. We begin with a heavy metal instrumental, and then follow up with an early 80's pys-rock-pop experiment. The goal here is to concisely demonstrate the process of music making, and some of the decisions that are made throughout.

A few weeks back, I did a live composing session. During that livestream, I wrote the fundamental idea for what you're hearing in this lesson. It might be fun to revisit that to see how it has evolved since!

Note, this video is currently unlisted and will go public tomorrow (in case there are any outstanding errors that slipped past me).

I HOPE YOU ENJOY!

Tremendously entertaining and inspiring video! Especially since I struggle to get going with my own creative work. This gives me the template for how to go about it. One question: how long time did it take from idea and first steps to finish for each of the songs?

Awesome. Really cool tunes. You're a really good producer/songwriter/musician. Love these tunes.

This was a fantastic lesson, thank you Jake!! It's definitely my favourite composing technique, building off one specific interesting motif or idea. I tried it with a looping 5-note rhythm, for this piece I did for my game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNpVVk3BAZw As a non-guitar player, seeing your instrumentation choices and ESPECIALLY seeing how you bring in different bass/guitar techniques is really useful to me. It also helps me understand why making music for a rhythm game somehow always helped me write better songs in general, because i actively try to reuse motifs so that the players can play along more easily. Cheers!

You should get a Ronnie James Dio clone to sing on the metal version. Great stuff. ✌️✌️
