Fancy Movie Time #23 - It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)

On this episode of Fancy Movie Time with Brian and A.J., the Fancy Lads hop in a biplane and knock out Jim Backus as they cover Stanley Kramer's 1963 mega-comedy: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Do its wide array of comedic stars and its commitment to throwing every bit at the wall make it a Fancy Feast? Or does its lugubrious pacing and cast of mostly comedic non-actors make it a Failure to Fancy? One thing's for sure: people in 1960s San Diego really loved to DANCE.

Next Episode: Ace in the Hole (1951)

Little known fact, Saul Bass's mother was pushed over a cliff by Dalmatians.

That collection of skits I used to watch is on YouTube apparently! It's called Milton Berle The Second Time Around. It's got the play he puts on where he acts as 3 of the 4 characters, and it's still hilarious!

Further proof of my strange childhood is that I loved old-school, Texaco Star Theatre slapstick Milton Berle. My grandparents had a vhs tape collection that I watched over and over. I might even still have them. The scene with him prancing around in a smoking jacket, saying, "Shot mother, you know. Bow and arrow. Didn't want to wake the children." Has lived in my head since I don't even know how young. I really need to see this movie! Can't believe AJ thought Milton Berle was Groucho Marx.

This should be interesting to listen to you, because I saw this movie when we were shown it as a reward for something in elementary school. I don't remember liking it that much, it seemed really long, and just remember having no clue what was going on and some part at the end with people hanging on to a telephone wire? I don't remember thinking it was funny, I just remember being confused. So I'm looking forward to being told why this is a good movie, or not.

The line “it must have been in a Nora Ephron movie” made me check to see if it was in the Nic Cage throwback rom com IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU which I have a soft spot for cause I feel like with some minor cuts you could just release it in 1939 and no one would bat an eye

John Leavitt

but Jafar is already sexy Jafar

I confused this movie with another for a minute. Either way, a great episode and I, for one, would definitely want a Murder by Death episode

Oh damn! I've actually seen this one a few times! Even rewatched in last year just to see if it was as funny as I remembered it. Verdict: kinda?
