107 - Over the Garden Wall

Comments

The leaves actually DO change the air. They release ethylene, and one of its functions as a plant hormone is to signal leaf and flower senescence. So a leaf starts dying and its basically telling other nearby leaves to die, and they're like, "sure....time to die yay!".

We haven't but A.J. will absolutely be looking into it!

The Worst of all Possible Worlds

So I finally, after years of never quite managing it, got round to watching Over The Garden Wall in order to listen to this episode. The boyfriend and I finished the show last night. New comfort show unlocked, I think 🧡 What an absolutely heartfelt delight.

Bee Tee Dubs, there is such a thing as a horse collar. Preferred over a yoke for horses pulling things, actually.

Over the Garden Wall is better Fall Vibes than pumpkin spice. And that's a Rock Fact!

Dergon

I love your podcasts, but this might be one of my favorite podcast episodes ever. I would be curious if you all had seen Infinity Train.

Langolier

The instant the pumpkin people town appeared I started Leo-pointing at the screen and shouting it’s the triumph of death! ITS THE TRIUMPH OF DEATH - fucking love that painting spend like 45 solid minutes in the Prado just looking at it

John Leavitt

[Annihilation mentioned] You guys should talk about Annihilation and the differences between the book and movie some time! Also, side note, I also grew up with 'Somewhere in Dreamland', it was on some Christmas shorts tape. Really took me out of 'Skinamarink' for a bit when it showed up in that lol

Thom Coté

So glad you boys took the time to talk about this show. What a warm and wonderful thing it is. Both in terms of it's own self and the work that went into producing it.

Sam Gregge

Another episode that I immediately relisten to as soon as I finish it the first time around. The Inferno influences are not something I'd clocked and I've watched the series I think three times now. Also, id Software's "Hexen" mentioned, what a pull

Jon

How I Met Your Father took way longer than 2 hours to watch. Also, I don't think having watched it adds anything to this episode

Jimmy McMillan

If you - like me - have not watched this show yet, I implore you to stop the episode (or at least, delay listening to it) and go find this show. It’ll take you less than 2 hours to watch the whole series, and you’ll not regret it ☺️

Over the Garden Wall is a yearly treat in our house. Usually gets played through multiple times both for active watching and background noise

Tom and Joe made me give them money to play their game and now I, Teagan, am anime sickos canon. I'm gonna live forever!

That's wild I just happened to watch this last week for the first time

Elias

So happy to hear you guys discuss this show. I originally was not taken by the first few episodes, but after finishing the series, it got lodged in my brain and I had to rewatch a few days later. It really hit hard the second time through, and now I rewatch every year. I can’t wait to see it again with the added insight you provided. I really like the reversal of expectations you talked about. Most fairytale/cartoon media codes the characters as beautiful = good, ugly = bad.

Luckie

You leave Little Nemo alone! It was a great movie and a cool game! You’re all monsters for not liking it!
