we like watching birds | BEHIND THE SCENES
Added 2021-05-10 16:17:00 +0000 UTCFull disclosure: We started this video thinking that birds were neat, but after spending hours outside trying to find and film interesting birds, Karen and I are 100% birdwatchers and absolutely love looking at those sweet little sky dogs.

This video was really fun to make! It's always nice to have an excuse to get out of the house and shoot in different locations (the rental car I mentioned in a previous post was used for this one and next month's vid) and also have to actually learn some things. I now know at least 10 bird names and some cool facts about each of them. Having to ID these birds (thank you allaboutbirds.org) was a fun little extra project during the editing process.
I'll most likely post about the gear we used when filming this vid (and next months vid) since we did it all away from my apartment. I tried to carry only the essentials with me, but I still ended up bringing a couple bags of stuff in order to make these vids, so I thought it would be cool to show what I bring with me when I'm filming two VERY DIFFERENT videos in the course of two weeks.

2021-05-13 20:50:40 +0000 UTCI had noticed that they were two different buildings for the Applebee's scene, upon first watching, I just figured y'all just couldn't get the shot without possibly getting in trouble

2021-05-12 21:56:08 +0000 UTCLove it. I've been filming birds at 29fps with a telephoto for about 9 months now and it's so hard getting the focus with those twitchy little beauties bopping around but when you get a clear shot of up-close animal behaviour it's so rewarding. I took our shared joy as a kind of sign from the universe to finally support you on patreon after enjoying your Youtube content for the past ~2 years. Keep up the great work and if you want to just like, make a whole hurdy gurdy album that would be great. I'm also going to ask santa for the same wish to cover my bases.

2021-05-10 18:31:53 +0000 UTCI love a grackle. There ought to be more cultural consciousness and mythology about them. They're my favorite. Making mic-check noises all over the place.

2021-05-10 17:49:43 +0000 UTCFirst of all, I also got into birdwatching during shutdown so this is fantastic. Second of all, I like that you both were dressed like that, were walking around with a bunch of film equipment, and show up to the random Applebee's dumpster, but you think the OTHER people already hanging out there were the weird ones.

2021-05-10 17:13:57 +0000 UTCI'm so glad you included grackles! They're such cool and underappreciated little birds.

2021-05-10 16:24:44 +0000 UTCLMAO at both of those red-tailed hawk facts coming from the bird jorts stream and its comments. Additional thanks to the Facebook group "Feather Identification & Discussion" for telling me it was a juvenile after I took cheeky out of context screenshots and posted them there.
