Revelation Process

Greetings there, my lovelies,
It's been a bit of a rough start to the year, but I am gearing back into work pretty hard. However, I learned some things while I worked on this more recent piece, and I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the process.
- So, while I geared this up for the process I have been refining since last year, I have been playing with something new: how I use the gradient maps in the shadows. Both Rune and I have been trying to learn this absurdly useful tool better, and this one was a curious and welcomed challenge.
- This character has a unique color palette that I did not want to lose in the colors of the atmosphere. So we played around with several tries regarding the shadows, from intensity to colors, and settled on a purple with greens in the highlights to keep that black/grey coloration.
- Ultimately, it paid off once we figured out the base idea for it, as with the highlights, which allowed more of their natural base color to shine through. Honestly, I was thrilled with this piece as it played into some themes I had not played with for some time.
- The lava was also a fun callback, as I had not had the chance to paint it for a little while. It's a curious subject to try and portray. I managed to use a couple of layers for it, using outer glow on the blending settings of the layer to achieve that subtle glow.
But these were some of my little thoughts through the process, on to the rest of the year :D
Cheers,
Noct
