Tarby Blep Full Video

Full Process of the Tarby Blep video, I will see if in the future I can use some free music or something for these just so it's not complete silence.

A look into my mind

Bit of a longer explanation for both videos

-You’ve picked up your pen, now what? Let's look at this character/subject matter. What can we discern from them and how they are drawn? In this case, this was the image I was given. TARBY REF IMAGE

So, what can I infer? This character, named Tarby, seems to be read as very lively and a bit cute, perhaps a mischievous mimic. I browsed around for other art of Tarby, looking for different personality traits or inferences. Now that I’ve researched, I will identify the most consistent characteristics portrayed from each piece in my gathering. For instance, his eyes are often depicted as large and expressive, his snout is rounded and friendly, and his overall visage exudes a playful charm.

He has big, round features from his eyes to his snout to his overall visage. For lack of a better term, he's very “friend-shaped” and very approachable.

So, as I am sketching, I consider these things: round shapes and friendly eyes; they seem to be playful and cute. This is why I chose to lean in a little sticking-out tongue pose. But since he also has a mischievous side, I brought his wyvern hands up to give him a hunched look to read into that. Each stroke of my pen is a deliberate decision guided by my understanding of the character and the desired artistic effect.

Once I have a direction I want to take, the sketch starts with those blue underlines. These initial marks are rough and serve as a guide for the final sketch. They help me establish the basic proportions and pose of the character, allowing me to build upon them in the subsequent stages of the sketch.

Why do I do these rough things? It's to mitigate guesswork and save time. The less guesswork, the less time you spend fighting with a piece. Sure, it may start out a bit chaotic, but that's the beauty of art. I see art as chipping away at a stone or sculpting something from clay. You must make a wireframe before you can pose for things. These initial rough sketches are my wireframe, allowing me to experiment and explore before committing to a final piece.

It is the same way I approach art in any form.

- Now, to make a more precise sketch, I used the Sampled Brush 5 1 from this downloaded pack-

The brush looks like this in my preview section- BRUSH I USED

And I toggle with the settings seeing up here- BRUSH SETTINGS

You can change how a brush behaves with any of these settings. Opacity and flow can even be adjusted to pressure sensitivity, which is what I do.

I do this to gain more control over how a brushstroke looks, whether I want it lighter and airier with less pressure or more solid, like when hiking with a pen.

- On a layer below the lines, I will do what I call pseudo-shading. I call it this because I’m using the natural greys of the image as a midtone. A midtone is the color that sits between the highlight and shadow. If you take a three-step layered approach, you'll use three colors, from darkest to lightest: shadow, mid or base, and highlight.

So, I am only bringing forth the darkest parts of shadow and highlights in this image.

On a layer above this, I wanted to mess around with my home-made scale brushes; you can find those in my Kofi shop here currently for Photoshop and Clip studio paint- https://ko-fi.com/noctemtenebris/shop

Once the shadows are defined, I will use a white or close-to-white hue and highlight some forms and how the light may bounce off them. I do this to emphasize his rounded shapes as described earlier.

For the BG I have a bunch of just rough gritty painterly brushes that can be found in these brush packs-
