TUTORIAL: How I made my Suneater cosplay (BNHA/MHA)

With My Hero Academia season 3 coming out and the introduction of the Big three I thought it would be a good time to show you guys how I made my Suneater cosplay!

I used purple duck cloth I got from my local fabric store, the fabric is sturdy and holds its form and is the perfect fabric to use for his vest. For the pattern I cut up an old white shirt and modified it till I got the basic shape of the base of the vest I wanted.

I double layered the fabric to make it more sturdy and with that the base was complete!

For the buckles I bought a variety ( one , two , three ) and the straps I bought from here! The straps fray VERY VERY easily and in order to stop that you need to carefully with a lighter burn the edges of where you cut the strap, this will seal/melt those edges and stop the fraying, this needs to be done for every strap.

I pretty much guessed on the length and adjusted it as I needed, take your time with this to make sure your straps are tight but also comfortable.

For his pouches I used variations of this pattern I came up with! Sew them together the same way I have them laid out!

You're gonna have a variety of pouches at this point! In order for them to keep the shape and still be light, I took empty boxes of mac and cheese (for the smaller boxes I used cotton padding) and stuffed the insides of the pouches with them! In order for them to be able to stay on my belts I sewed on a small piece of the purple strapping to the back of each pouch, that way I could just slide them on.

After painting the buckles with Gold leaf rub n buff the vest was complete! All the pouches are functional also!

For his hoodie I stenciled out the shape onto some paper and then transferred the design onto Yaya Hans stretch matter gold fabric!

Here is the pattern shape I used for the hoodie! Its the same one I use for most of my KH hoodies!

I sewed down the gold part onto the hood section just by using a straight stitch along the edges!

For his skirt its literally just a long rectangle piece of the white fabric that connects together at the top via some velcro. Same goes for the scarf part of, just a thinner and longer piece of rectangle fabric.

His bracelets are made from EVA foam strips I cut out, not much else to say about that.

I cut out diamond shapes from the EVA foam and sanded the edges down with my Dremel to get the beveled edges.

I glued everything together with some generic super glue!

For his mouth mask I used the pattern shown above and cut it out of EVA foam. Everything was glued together with super glue and then in order to hide the seams on the foam I used some kwik dap seal! This is great for filling in those seams and making your foam look smoother overall around those areas! Let it dry and then you can sand down any of the excess dap. (This would also be a good way to make a mask for Deku)

For his shoulder pauldrons its just this pattern, cut out of craft foam and then glued together, rather simple!

I then took more craft foam and cut out long strips of it and lined the foam around the edges.

Everything was then primed with Plasti dip and painted with either Rub n buff in gold or silver! For the mask I also took my heat wand and etched in the design for the teeth! (the other silver armor pieces here were for my Dabi cosplay)

For his eye mask I actually bought a transparent set of dividers you would use in binders for school and cut out my mask shape from that!

I grabbed some worbla and heated up some long strips and began carefully lining the edges of the plastic with it, this helped it keep its form and made the plastic more sturdy!

And with that, Suneater was done! The mask stays on my face by shoving the sides of it into my wig cap! Though you could also keep it in place with a strap on by putting small amounts of skin adhesive on the sides of the mask. The black undersuit I bought here!
The armor stays on my shoulders cause they're glued down to the purple vest and the leather belts under my arms are just for decoration and do not hold anything up.
Hope this helps you out with your next cosplay, as always if you have questions feel free to ask!
