Listening Party: PLAVE 'ASTERUM The Shape of Things to Come' EP

Comments

i LOVEEEE Why? like i love fun kpop songs like this one, and the 6th summer makes me emotional idk. Im excited for u to hear more. Also yes to add to another comment they are a lil quirky I think you saw a lil of their personality when Yejun and Eunho were guests on Soobin's my fave's fave, but we love this about them and it shows in some songs like "why? " lmao idk. Also idk if you've seen their lightstick but it's in the shape of a dumbbell just thought that was fun since the lights are on both ends of it.

yessi

also honestly "Why?" has a lot of inside jokes, just like "Virtual Idol", so it's fun to watch a performance instead, while knowing what protein or Rolex and etc are all about hahha

hahaha PD, I recommend you dont skip the christmas single, but as an alternative – watch it with the video on Youtube :D I rarely like Christmas Songs, but I do listen to this one time to time hahaha even when it's not christmas and I need a mood booster lol! And I get what you are saying – it makes absolute sense, because PLAVE ARE the composers of their own songs – they are extremely involved starting from songwriting to production! So it makes sense for them to write music extremely representative of who they are!

I totally agree, if they can’t be corny then who tf can be lmao. Like WAYO WAYO WAE is so corny but I like it. Bring back feel good corny songs.

The 6th Summer was my favourite title track before Dash and it still holds a really special place in my heart; I really love the choreo for it too! (I highly recommend watching their dance practices btw, very old school!) You're very right that Plave songs are really just for Plave to sing and no-one else. I think it's important here to point out how much freedom and agency they have musically because their company VLAST really just handles the visuals/tech/IP management aspect and doesn't appear to meddle with the music much if at all, so the 'Plave sound' is very much something the members landed on and agreed to themselves. And the members have spoken in interviews about how they view the Plave signature sound - it's band-style, it's easy-listening, it's often a pain in the ass to figure out choreography for, and it's meant to appeal to the general Korean public, which it clearly does. And personally I think they went that route knowing full well that they'd have to try and appeal to the kind of people to whom traditionally a virtual group does not appeal to. (And yes, Plave does err on the side of corny every so often but these are virtual manhwa men doing kpop... if they're not allowed to be corny, who is!)

Wah...re-listening to this album with you is so healing. The whole tracklist is so healing and I totally get you what you mean with the drums which is why it was so mindblowing when PLAVE first did an orchestra arrangement for their first fan concert ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaYUdOe0K2A ) But tbh even with the imperfections of the title track it is the dearest song to my heart, mainly because it is a song that is resonant in the way it feels like coming home and in combination with the story line of the MV it just encapsulates the coming-of-age angst that I sometimes reminisce since it feels so simple but unique. Again thank you so so much for starting this journey!
