Listening Party: XLOV 'UXLXVE' EP

Comments

I love to see you react to Jewery Box and the interview Rui and Wumuti did with Hong seok cheon! I really liked the interview since they got to talk about their conecpt and the background about the group. https://youtu.be/M9NIX2HQKcI?si=P-NJifFUFeG2y4Sg

i'm so hyped you were able to listen to this!!! like genuinely, rizz is the worst song on this album- its not bad by any means, the chorus just isn't my favourite either- but every bside on here has gone on playlists for me. genuinely love this album, is a top album of the year for me along with mark tuan's new album and jane remover's revengeseekerz (two very different vibes, ik) oh, and f5ve's sequence1 as well! its so beautifully done, the songs really show off the vocals they have, and wumuti's writing is amazing here also, hearing ur comments abt biii:-p (ur right, it does sound like a girl group song), you should definitely check out a few biii:-p live stages- ill go grab a couple links to the best ones :) whether its to react or watch on ur own time should you be interested! but xlov is such an openly queer group (and genderqueer as well!) in a time where, for me, i think i really feared we were backsliding so hard, that to see a group be this free and unapologetic in an industry where i thought we might just never get to that point has really touched me and helped me see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel i feel we are stuck in. the way wumuti talks about gender in interviews as well is incredibly interesting- i felt i had started to fall into this circle of "oh if i'm really genderqueer then on these masc/fem days i have to dress masc/fem to be valid, or i have to perform this gender in some way" and hearing wumuti talk about the way gender is often performed and how they want to step away from seeing clothes as attached to gender, even in the form of "oh i'm a boy in girls clothing isn't this subversive" and instead say "no, i'm a person wearing clothes that make me happy" (i also agree with you when it comes to calling people gay just bc theyre flamboyant- if thats what i thought was happening it would be very different! having watched a lot of content from xlov recently, these are people who, if they aren't queer, have immersed themselves so much in queer culture and communities that it almost doesn't matter. i don't know what flavour of queer they all are and i don't care either- they're doing something i didn't think possible in this industry (and i think its all thanks to wumuti's creative direction, tbh)) long personal paragraph but hey, openly queer group in kpop- it means a lot to my old gay heart!

Hyuns part in the middle of Scent is just heaven

main difference to me: OOO= concept focused group, XLOV=member focused group. xlov incorporates the members individual strengths and talents very intentionally

i really felt everything you said, especially as someone who used to stan OnlyOneOf. While it’s not hard to imagine that it may have been more than a concept to some of them, it always felt like a lot of their stuff was them going through the motions to appeal to fanservice. Their concept always took the forefront and while I liked watching it, it felt like watching actors in a movie. (saying this as someone who loves OOO! Not that they were “pretending” per se, but that you could pretty clearly see the members were not as collaborative with their company as XLOV.) I don’t know xlov personally & i feel like I have every right to be wary of queerness packaged in kpop groups, but it feels lik xlov are bringing THEMSELVES into every comeback, and that we will see a fuller and more realized vision as the group gets more and more confident.

Ever since I watched the Jewel Box interview… I really trust the vision for this group

I think one of the reasons people love xlov (beyond the obvious) is because they bring a sense of “authenticity” that kpop has been lacking, at least for me. Genuinely seems like a longtime, very personal project that they want to do, that every song of theirs is a expression of themselves, and that they each believe in each other and the concept fully. It’s so charming!

Taking this moment again to confirm that YES Xlov is actually very queer. Not just vibes. The members strictly go by any pronouns. They're not a boy group. They're truly a genderless group. And all their songs are about the queer experience as well. Highly recommend watching pretty much any of their interviews when you feel down, they're so so so encouraging about being your own unique self.

Just screamed FINALLY into the void lmaooo. Xlov are THE monster rookies of 2025 no competition. Need them to work together with Junny again!!

So, PD, there are some facts u may like to know. Wumuti created XLOV inspired by Rui; he wanted to create a safe space for both of them and that could resonate with their experiences in life and that could really embrace who they are, Hyun and Haru were also friend with them so he probably called them for the same reason (besides being perfect for the group based on skills). Wumuti has said we don’t know their gender identities nor sexuality, and we’ll only know if they ever share, so i don’t personally consider them cisgender men just bc i don’t want assume, but thats okay if you do, i’m not judging. They accept any pronouns, have made their company accept social names for the trans fans, and have participated of LGBT parades before, besides having a relationship with queer k-pop artists like Holland, NANA, Hong Seok Cheon… In my opinion they are revolutionary bc they curate, create, and perform queer art in South Korea, and thats enough for me. Even if they don’t get to places like illit and Babymonster, they did a wonderful job bringing hope for queer K-pop stans and queer asian people

I WAITED THIS FOR SOOOO LONG
