Listening Party: CLOSE YOUR EYES 'blackout' EP

Comments

bruh i missed this upload, anyways what an absolute banger EP ive been listening like crazy 🤪 2.0, X and jane doe are my faves, I guess I am not really a fan of the edm vibes! I don’t dislike them though 🙂‍↕️ I’m too scared to stan another nugu group (scarred from A.C.E) but honestly really enjoying this sound for CYE

as someone who followed p7 while it was airing, and have most of my top picks in the final lineup i can def say that show was never really a mess... people were just bothered that their picks werent in the final lineup. and the thing is because the show wasnt as popular as the other mnet svs shows, the debut lineup didnt really change from the beginning till the end, there was no real surprise as to who was going to debut so just a heads up if you ever consider watching, watch it just for the vibes and the amazing performances and not for the actual "survival" part of it. what also triggered most of us was the on site voting, it was really biased and unfair, but thats what you get in every other svs so what did people expect really ? apart from that i have no idea why people would say it was a mess. we had the old produce type format with the missions that gave us iconic vocal/rap/dance stages (i mean to this day i still watch the love me or leave me and work stages), the producers were actually giving constructive feedback, the broadcast didnt always focus on the drama but gave us a real look into the bonds forming on the show, the original songs were high quality (time after time will forever be that queen) and the talent pool was crazy. so yea p7 might not be the best svs show but it wasnt the worst either (i think i would give that to wild idol.. that one was actually weird af).

I am not finished with Project 7 yet but so far I’ve enjoyed it a lot! I feel like we really get a deeper look into Ma Jing Xiang’s work ethic and leadership skills which blossomed during the show imo. Maybe one day you will react to it :)

It's very hard to top ETERNALT for me, but I think Blackout comes really close, or maybe even is on the same level, but it's hard to judge. ETERNALT feels like Spring, it's a flawless, cohesive album. Blackout feels like ETERNALT's older brother, the same vibe but more mature, more sexy, but in a casual nonchalant way. Snowy Summer feels like the middle brother who kinda doesn't know what he wants to do. Bubble Tea has that ETERNALT vibe, but Paint Candy has that Blackout vibe. It's the perfect transition album actually! They really remind me of early ASTRO. Not that they share a sound, but its just that the sound is consistent. And ASTRO also released 3-4 albums in their debut year, so that's also why they remind me of each other. Also, on the note of P7, I personally really liked it, but I also didn't watch it live after episode 1. I also just really like JTBC survival shows (Peak Time, Superband, etc.), they just have my preferred editing style. Looking back on it, I don't really find it that messy, and if you know 1-2 of the members going into it, I think it's fun. But, overall, if you think you'd hate it, I can definitely recommend their debut documentary on their YouTube channel, I think that is a fantastic introduction to the group and what they're going to try and accomplish throughout their career

Ahh I didn't catch that you finally dropped this listening party! I immediately went to upgrade my membership lol

loved your reactions to 2.0 and Jane doe 😂 I pretty much had the same reaction when I first heard it. X is my favourite release of this year and HARD agree that it’s one of the best boy group songs ever

I geeked out watching your reaction, PD! Love this group, love this album! And yes, I loved Project 7, as well. One of my favourite survival shows, actually. Had a blast watching it. And there's a lot of other trainees on there that I constantly think about (Ahn Ju Won, for example). I do hope you will check it out someday if you ever have the itch to do so, I would rewatch it (again 😅). I highly suggest you check out Close Your Eyes on SoundBomb360 where they perform 'X' and in the 2nd video 'Who's Dat'! 'All My Poetry' is my favourite title track of the year and 'X' is definitely in the top 10 (top 5 I think!) 🤗🔥

cye is slowly becoming one of my favorite groups just from their music alone. while some songs arent as great as others theyre still good and have that cye sound. you can tell their company just loves them so much but its actually devastating to know they have that stupid 2.5 year contract. its only been a year but im already praying for that contract extension! you cant sound like this and then disband! you just cant!

Truly thought To The Woods was going to be my b-side of the year then Jane Doe just came in and took the crown at the last minute haha. I watched Project 7... it was good and bad. Yes it was a mess, but what I did like about it was that the show had heart. It seemed like the production team cared about the contestants and it's one of the only svs programs where I've seen contestants praise the production and look back on the show fondly (even those who were eliminated). I think it was the same producer/team who did Peak Time, which is my all time favorite svs for the same reason (on top of incredible performances), so I'm not surprised with those similarities. That said, P7 was a mess and I don't know if I would say the trainees skills were shown as well as they could have been, and apart from a couple members I don't know how much you even learn about them in the show despite the long episodes. Personally, I'd recommend their Debut Documentary over the svs, they talk about the show and even bring the mentors back for it, and it covers basically from the finale to debut. And it would take less time than a single episode of P7 lol. Hopefully they renew. I think it's certainly possible, the company seems to be investing a LOT in them for it to be temporary. I believe only 2 out of 7 members even have contracts that would conflict with an extension, though unfortunately, one of them is a pocketdol trainee. But hey, maybe pocketdol will go bankrupt from all their idols suing them before then.

On the topic of music burnout! I completely agree with your sentiment and examples. As someone that was a HARDCORE stay I feel like I've fallen out of love with there sound really since LALALA as you said. Even SVT who I always check out I really haven't gotten into their past releases beside BSS really😅 For me CYE, IDNTT, &Team and NMixx have put out some of the best music and projects this year because of how consistent and developed their sound feels. Like its taking you on a journey you know? I feel like big groups are just spitting out songs which not paying attention to how the audience can connect with the story

Dassah

Hands down one of the best English versions I've ever heard! It's so well done☺️ I think the only one I've been as impressed with was Blue Valentine English Version

Dassah

ITS HERE EVERYONEEE!!!!!

Dassah

So I heard Project7 was a mess too which is why I was going to avoid it. Since you acknowledge it as well, why is it your favorite even tho the mess

hi pd! i love your reactions and i love close your eyes, that's why i'd love to see you react to project 7. while it was a bit of a disaster, as you've heard, for me it was the best survival show EVER. maybe it's just me being biased but i really felt something watching it, i went through ALL the emotions (something rare for me) i don't know... they were my family, all the guys (except the ones who turned out to be bad people). you're the only reactor I'm really interested in and I'd be grateful to take this journey again with you because i'm so eager to watch it again, it's simply my comfort show, and if it's with my favorite reactor... life is worth living. watching something with you is like seeing it for the first time. and it goes without saying that "RUN" IS THE BEST THEME SONG OF A SURVIVAL SHOW, i still listen to it, i swear. i love these guys, they're the only group i stan, and watching them grow in every way (a year is a lot, ok?) is everything i've ever wanted to experience but never got the chance because i could never connect with others, until now. when fall is soon but it'll never be fall 2024 again watching project 7 every friday after school. sorry, i just watched some nostalgic tikToks.

CYE's blackout album is such a masterclass of how to make an exceptional album. Every song feels just right length wise and perfectly placed to give a peak listening experience. Also I felt the same about the english version of X and SOB. At first I wasn't sure if I would like an english version of such a perfect song but now I just can't stop listening to both versions as they both are in their core the same but each bring a different, tasty flavour. SOB was meh at first listen but after hearing it again and especially watching the performance videos just made me love it so freaking much. BTW! Both X and Who's dat have a 360° spatial audio live stages Who's Dat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKzAU2PNaGU&pp=ygUYY2xvc2UgeW91ciBleWVzIHdob3MgZGF0 X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_wQJ326tB4 And now the not so fun fact: CYE is unfortunately a temporary group and we only have 3 years with them :,) (which also might explain why they took the 6 months between the finale of project7 and the debut to really lock in and define what they want with the group)

DAMN! I'm FLOORED! I'M STANNING!
