Universe League EP 2

Comments

i literally thought oh that guy kinda reminds me of xdinary ode right before pd says it LOL

Josie

i always felt like changsub saying to “hide the weakness” until you’re better at choreo to jeongwoo was from his experience as BTOB. changsub really focused more on vocals and how to showcase than thru choreo rather than amaze audiences with intense choreo

jazz

22:20 - Seeing the contestants with their hand up, it makes me want to go there and give them a high five

WiseSmellyLegs

Not me thinking bench test would be based on doing bench presses 😅😅

WiseSmellyLegs

also seeing park jihun in ep2 rly confirmed it for me that team beat directors did NOT mean to choose him😭 they def chose him by mistake and it was awkward so they just went with it..

crys

jeongwoo is seriously so freaking cute 😭😭😭😭 he gives me such bad cuteness aggression his smile is adorable and his shyness just has me meltingsjwjwn i cant believe this is a 24 year old man who finished his degree and the military and NOT a teenager😭.. i also think his attitude is just so charming hes really so earnest and hardworking he tries his best to make up for what hes lacking, and lowkey its crazy how he manaaged to keep up with his team as a 3 week trainee! u can see he worked so hard!! hes so admirable to me idk my fav for this episode was groove team, i feel like everyone stood out and did their part well! rhythm did good too but imo some members stood out WAY more than others so there was an imbalance tho they had amazing teamwork, but groove was way more balanced which made it a more satisfying watch (?) like all of them shone in their own parts and complemented esch other so well! most of my favs are in groove too hehe esp jeongwoo, han, joohyoung. speaking of joohyoung,.. joohyoung is sooo gooood ugh i love him so much! he was in nine.i (seowon’s group) and he was one of their main producers for their songs btw :-) hes a full all rounder in all aspects! he sings well, raps well, dances well, produces, and is so funny!

crys

When PD said this show makes B2P looks like shit. I agree

Xen

i love this groove performance soo much aaa

Pips

I really have a soft spot for jeongwoo

Irving

I am not sure if I am the only one but I see Cha Eun Woo, a bit, in Chih En.. 😁😁 So I have a list of look-a-likes, 🤣🤣 Juwon - Doyoung (treasure) Chih En - Cha Eun Woo Steven - Lee Joon Gi / Hwang In Yeop Han - Park Seo Joon (I saw one pre-UL photo of Han where the resemblance is so uncanny) Jeongwoo - Park Bogum JL - Zhang Hao (Zb1)

~kath~

With this hairstyle, Shuaibo seriously looks/reminds me of Joshua in some shots and it's bothering me

Aki

Loving the reaction :D Also just want to say how refreshing it is to see so many positive comments with no spoilers <3

Sarahjayne

I think their previous idol/performer experience really came into play here and you can clearly tell since this is their first performance to the audience in this show. JL was a P-pop idol, Woongki debuted before and was in BP, Joohyung was a former NINE.i member. Han was definitely nervous compared to the draft stage as this is his first stage in front of the audience but it’s really nice seeing him grow throughout the show and the same goes to a lot of other trainees honestly.

Lily

JIYEON! That's who Juwon reminds me of!

TheDaddyMJ

JL really reminds me of Keita from boys planet. They have the same confidence and vibe that I love.

Kactuschu

i freaking love the groove team man... joohyung, park han, jeongwoo, kyung ho.... such a group of crazy people, can't wait for you to see more of my children lol

emotionless bot

i agree with you, this show makes others look like shit. universe league is my favorite survival show, i wish more shows could be like this one, i feel this one is less toxic than some

Alex

dude, you really into El Capitan, i respect that

Alex

Sirin appreciation, yes!! He was so overlooked by onsite voters, it made me sad :-( your reaction every time JL came onscreen was exactly me the first time I watched their performance xD like you can NOT not have him in the final lineup. Looking forward to your Kairi reaction <3 edit: also, i don't know if you remember, but JL was the other trainee who caught your eye in the signal song :D he was the rhythm center dancing powerfully during the end part.

Bea C

I think since Feel Special something shifted in Woongki. Back in TOO/TO1. He only got to sing a line each comeback and never got centre parts. Always hidden at the back and only used for variety shows. In boy planet his audition stage wasn’t even aired cause he cried and messed up bad. His round 1 performance he was carrying but continued to have no stage presence. But something about feel special shifted his mentality. Like he REALLLLLLY worked on his vocals and stage presence since then. He’s really really been working hard for the years since then to now. Idk what happened to him… but that entire period of : Feel Special debacle, to then being eliminated and JUST missing out on ZB1, to then being shit talked by HYBE in their ADOR files to now universe league… something seriously shifted for him… and even in AHOF now. The growth he has been on is incredible, especially being so many years deep into his career now.. He’s kind of like the MALE SAKURA for me in a certain aspect

Wiktor

woongki really locked in in this show man he was so different from how we was on boys planet and im so glad he can show his skills more and let people know he-s more than just a funny guy. Im also JL one pick so what can i say he-s a phenomenon man.

ysaalt

I just subscribed to your Patreon solely for your UL Reactions, PD-nim!!! Can't wait for more episodes!!!

Allyson Peñafiel

I think with Rhythm, being from mostly different countries and cultures helped them communicate better. They had to convey words more to be understood by the members since not everyone spoke fluid English or Korean. Also some cultures are more open than others so they probably went into the team wanting to make friends and debut together rather than wanting to only debut. You'll see it as you watch how their dynamic as a team is special.

Nani

JL really is one of the most talented ever on a SVS. He has it all. He can sing, dance and rap. Plus his stage presence and facial expressions always on point. He just has so much charisma and it's gonna keep getting more and more evident throughout the show. Then his versatility in singing, dancing, aura, and facial expressions, IMO, is unmatched. You'll see what I mean when you keep going. There's something I love about the way he performs. There's like an extra oomph. Maybe a small head tilt or a random biting of the tie. He just knows how to shine on stage. Sometimes it's as simple as a smirk.

Nani

I forget if they explain it later or not but Changsub asks trainees to sing national anthem because that’s how he’s able to tell their true foundation, and thus their potential, there are clear notes and diction, not meant to be vibrato or falsetto inherently, vs a Taeyang cover, you’re going to put some kind of flair on it to match or any other cover you might even unconsciously copy said artist, which makes sense doing a cover, but Changsub needs to hear their voice no distractions basically and their own color

Liv

I think GND is incredibly difficult to cover especially if you change it to be more masculine I don’t think the charm transfers, the moves were already hard hitting I don’t think they needed to re do a lot of the point choreo like I get having to remix it because of formations and I love Jiang Fan in the dance break, but the part where they cover their faces? I don’t understand the motivation since so much about GND is about the expression, I’m not as familiar with the WayV choreo so I’m not sure how much they changed, I know BTOB missing you was adapted to be more competitive which I understand, vs the BND choreo didn’t have the same magic and it wasn’t a make your own choreo challenge so I don’t know why change so much, they should lean more into the ethereal and emotional nature of it and naturally the intensity would come out a lot more authentic which I also think would benefit this specific lineup as well, it’s not like there is anything specifically feminine in the first place about the original choreo it lives in a nice in between so to slap on “masc” choreo feels too put on and not natural; also not sure GND hits as hard when lowered that many keys, which ik they had to bc vocal range, still shout out Jiang Fan and Woongki for practically hitting the original notes, but in overall a lower register it feels a bit low energy sonically, the point of GND is there should be hope in the desperation and not just bitterness/solemn parts; it’s one of those songs where if you perform even just good it becomes forgettable, you have to live up to the epic great scale to pull it off memorably

Liv

Maybe EL CAPITXN should change his name to EL SEXY MOTHERF*CKER because that dude is etherial for real

Sven Lenders

Hahaha

Jet

HIM? He seems so meek and shy 🥲

Jet

I want El Capitxn to play a villain type please; his visuals are so crazy good for either a psycho type villain or an intelligent moriarty, frieza, cunning type

Jet

Exactly! Just like breaking it down to even simple scales - Changsub, being a director of a vocal academy, is looking for who is TEACHABLE, who has the potential to be great with his help.

Aine

I love how PD always asks why singing the national anthem is always asked of. Mostly stories from SM idols, it is to gauge someone’s pitch and tempo and maybe breathing. They don’t want hyper stylized, just the basics down to know what their foundation is in singing and what to work with. Also it’s tough to teach someone to match pitch if they cant hear as to why it’s off.

jiminycricket

El Capitxn is giving such gender envy it’s crazy 😭 WHERES THE LOOKBOOK SIR I NEED IT

Liv

Oh btw, Kenta was controversial because of some accusations, i forgot if they were just bullying or SA

Sven Lenders

I genuinely don't remember much when I watched this show but the bench team of Beat were the ones who really made me root for the team as whole. There is so much talent on the bench team and this kind of set up is actually really cool cause we get to see them shine. It reminds of I-land with the whole I-land and ground situation.

anejelly

Jihun ruined GND for me (not really because that song is amazing) and threw shade on the Park Jihoon name (Wanna One, TREASURE)

Sven Lenders

Park Han sounds like Changsub actually

Sven Lenders

Thank you for your reaction. I do think from this mission, Team Rhythm had the most teamwork and felt like a cohesive team overall. Team Groove had so much individual star quality but it doesn't mesh well that much. And it's just unfortunate for Team Beat to have a starter that doesn't have the same level of commitment with the other members.

Chrollo Palce

PD, would you have been sirprised if we had already told you about GND, we wanted your raw reaction

Sven Lenders

This would be like if your audition had to be in front of idina menzel and Lin Manuel Miranda

Jet

Unlocked !

Jet

Unlocked!!!

Jet

Kairi love incoming btw

Jet

It’s unlocked~

Jet

PD unlock episode 1 pleaseeee

Juanita

Ep1 was a 1 time early access perk but PD often forgets to unlock it on time 😅 they'll fix it sometime today I'm sure

Aine

why is episode 1 locked but episode 2 available

Etoile2004

Yessss, despite my obvious bias towards El Capitxn (and his amazing music), Changsub was my favorite UL director. He really put thoughtful care into actually mentoring his team.

Aine

i got such a huge crush on changsub after this show. he so clearly had different priorities than the other mentors, focusing on vocals and skills over visuals. also the way he’s so hands on with teaching his team, my competency k!nk stood no chance lol

Mariah

your complains with chih en were what most people thought while watching the show tbh. I feel really bad for beat as it feels like the song they had didn't fit some of their starting lineup and Jihun being sub-par really dragged them down. Beat having a starting lineup of Woongki, Chih En, Jinho, Jiang Fan, Hanseo and Kairi would've been amazing.

day_spidey

On a lesser degree, Gehlee and Elisia from AHOF's sister group UNIS as well! ☺️ Actually I think Elisia's cousin is in a boy group as well! I don't remember what group tho.

Aine

pd!!! ep 1 pls!

jea

In my verrry early 20s I tried local community theater and the bench test gives me traumatic flashbacks to the audition process 😅 and at least *I* had the safety of a table and 10ft distance from the directors. I can't imagine having Changsub or Ten RIGHT in your face analyzing your every move

Aine

ep 1 access pls :(

sunlightjoan

Waiting for an access on ep 1 😅 also watching you react to Dream Academy and now Universe League just feels so amazing as a Filipino. I'm glad talents like Sophia and JL are being recognized internationally.
