Tanaka as a character is just so great! I love that he can be rambunctious and loud and silly but at the end of the day is grounded in himself, tenacious, knows who he is and respects not only himself but the people around him. I'm so glad Furudate departed from the typical 'hormonal boy teen' archetype and really gave Tanaka a lot of depth! This was the episode where I really realised that his feelings for Shimizu weren't just superficial and about her beauty, like this is a guy that can be a little obnoxious about his feelings for Shimizu but at the end of the day is committed to anything he applies to (including love) and above all respectful, and that's so attractive (plus extra heartbreaking for Kanoka bc it solidifies that she really did not have a chance 😭) Can't wait for the next ep!!

2025-10-16 21:20:56 +0000 UTCAbsolutely loved this episode arc for Tanaka, i think it’s well said that being “simple minded” or straightforward is often way harder, bc of the diligence and absolute mental fortitude that comes with that; when you’re playing with geniuses it does feel like you’re on a cliff’s edge and it can quickly turn to resentment coinciding with self-hate, it’s incredibly admirable to overcome that and still be consistent, be brave and keep trying new things (Tanaka’s cross, Asahi’s spike timing, Daichi Back attack, Suga’s spike) to keep at it long term and see yourself making 5% level up vs a hinata’s 25% level up is harrowing, but you have no choice but to keep playing (I want to get inside the mangakas, Furudate, mind and steal all his wisdom bc hot damn this man is reflective as fuck)
