Hunter x Hunter EP 125 + 126

Buckle up because this is THAT episode!!!

Comments

Hrmmm I suppose. I think I use dumb as a pretty big umbrella term for knuckle heads. I never watched but I read up till Ace died and I was like "nope, I'm out". I read a little of the time skip but I was too sad about Ace's death to continue lmao

Jet

Well i dont know how much One Piece you've watched PD, but Luffy is definitely not dumb. He is very strategic and has incredible battle wit. Really high EQ and situational awareness. I can say he is 'dumb' in a sense of 'carelessness'. He doesnt think about consequences that much and it may look like he is not that smart. He is kinda naive, but at the end of the day he understands the situation he is in better than anyone in his crew. I hope you can give him another chance some day. Ichigo is clearly the smartest, only one who've gone to college and has a real job. Lol. I dont care how much influence a hokage can, that's a village chief level job for Naruto.

Haruka

Netero is THEE old man of the fictional world.

Haruka

wow this is THAT episode, Netero...!!!

Otto

Why have I seen this arc multiple times to only now realize he put up a middle finger 😭

Sami Casingal

It's probably my second favorite completed arc in retrospect after York Shin, but I know a lot of manga readers hold disdain for the part because of how agonizing it was waiting to truck through this weekly at the time. Delayed chapters and unfinished art because of Togashi's increasing health issues, and then the pacing on top of it, it was quite a slog trying to follow scans week to week. I didn't appreciate the arc nearly as much until I went back and was able to read it in full at my own pace.

Also I always notice how Netero’s eyes at the end are VERY inhuman/chimera-ant like while Meruem’s are shown to be more and more human like Always hits deep how the lines between monster and human often cross

Damnnnn

Jet

it's like i said before, Netero had no intention of letting the King leave alive lol also; "letting" humans live on a lil "reservation"... like white settlers did to the Natives and this season (and show overall) comments a lot on the nature of Humanity and Evil. these Ants have grown more "human" and developed that level of empathy and admiration for an opponent, as opposed to only seeing humans as idiotic livestock both Youpi and Meruem grew to be more "evolved" while our human team started acting selfishly and dumb- driven by instinct.

AndrewSoup

the English dub actually had a better translation of Netero's last words; he said (paraphrasing) "don't underestimate Humanity's potential for *malice*" like, you do NOT understand how fucking evil humans can be you newborn ant

AndrewSoup

"we've reached the pinnacle of the Chimera Ant arc" oh HAVE we now?

AndrewSoup

netero hitting the hand heart kills me every time LMAOO

lucy

Remember Netero playing that game with Gon and Killua and only using his left arm and his right leg? Those are the limbs he lost to the fight. Togashi is such a genius.

Huh… Chimera Ant Arc is definitely the only rival to The Phantom Troupe Arc… In a way I would dare to say it might be better, because the way how The Phantom one ends is weirdly anticlimatic, which I at first respected and thought it was “such Hunter x Hunter thing to do”, but the fact that it leads to that Greed Island Arc, which is just not interesting to me after Kura-fucking-Pika story… that makes the whole vibe of the end of The Phantom one so… “it should have been better if it was never meant to be brought back and end there” (as it seems so far…). As it is now with this arc, it is probably already better, but I probably like Kurapika way too much to say it out loud right now. I get that the thing with Hunter x Hunter is that the main characters do not have to be in the main story all the time if it is not necessary. But guys… this arc is about the human kind being exterminated… we need crazy Kurapika here! And I get his thing is he is OP only, when he goes against The Phantom Troupe, but he is still bad-ass regardless. It would have been such a vibe if he appeared here saving someone in the “Kakashi last minute arrival way”

WiseSmellyLegs

Regarding dumb main characters… what about Goku? Did you not mind him being dumb?

WiseSmellyLegs

I never understood why people say this is their least favorite arc, it is some of the best writing of characters and their evolution on both sides, there are very emotional and hype moments from fights—the worst you can be is boring and not taking any risk, the point I will concede is that the anime (I’m sure it’s different in the manga) has pacing issues, not that it’s long bc idc if it’s long as long as it’s good, it’s just that I could see people getting bored from the sheer amount of recap we go through every episode like we didn’t need a COMPLETE minute by minute replay of something that happened in previous episodes (at the time the anime had caught up to the manga somewhat and I think they had to stall a bit, was the public sentiment) this arc has a lot to say about humanity and I give it major props, phantom troupe still my fav personally, chimera ant arc is lower bc of the skipping I had to do through recaps, and personally it’s a depressing, gross arc—it’s GREAT but on rewatchability I’m still like ew ew ew for a lot of the first part of the arc lol; we have the most fun in the phantom troupe arc, meanwhile chimera ant arc is like a complex dish that I have to palette cleanse from

Liv

Speaking of Nolan lol first time watching my reaction to Netero was oh you’re a little freak to then get to this fight where it’s like OH YOU LITTLE FREAK U PUT A NUKE IN YOU, the fight very much lived up to the hype imo

Liv

16:42 - Wasn’t that Killua’s grandfather?
