But seriously, after obsessing over his vocals for a decade, when I finally dive into Jonghyun, I didn't think what I'd obsess over most are his writing abilities. He was truly a divine artist and he really has such a sentimental and poetic way with his words that can't be touched and this album being less pop and more r&b/jazz really as well as a focus on the inspiration being listener submissions, really put that lyrical mastery into the spotlight.

SHINee came to me in a particularly rough period of time as a teen so to have just another connection & as someone who has had lifelong depression it just felt like I was destined to find their comforting music to get me through.

I’ve kept up with her through her Instagram that Jonghyun’s older sister managed. So the tears definitely came knowing she’s no longer here with us. But now I’d like to think that they’re both with each other, and Jonghyun finally has his puppy again whom he can “come home” to at the end of his day. So thankful to Jonghyun’s mother and Sodam for taking amazing care of Roo all these years.

Compared to other reaction type videos, I feel like you really LISTEN deeply to the music and presentation and really feel it as a whole experience, which always leads to wonderful commentary and interpretations. Especially as a Shawol, it makes me emotional seeing someone get impacted by Jonghyun the same way I always have throughout these years. I'm really looking forward to whenever you get around to reacting to Story Op. 2, it's probably my favorite Jonghyun album. Although be warned, I think it has some of his most raw and personal songs. I also recommend to look up the Essays for Story Op. 2, where Jonghyun gives his own sort of commentary on each song. Also very profound and quite dark, so read it at your own pace. It just feel like that Jjong's voice crushed your heart with sadness and something so emotional, while Jinki's voice so warm and hopeful but that's something that make you even sadder. kinda like smiling through your tears type of feeling. when their voice blend in together in harmonies, MAGIC happens. Really, I can't wait for you to deep dive to SHINee's discography when you hear them singing together.

I love his funky and up-beat stuff! and after know the details from you, a bit biased to 02:34 lol, I always wonder why I feel like I heard SHINee's members' voices at the end of the song, so it's actually them! PS. As for Byulroo, Yes, that's her name! but it isn't from Jjong. Minho is the one who gave her that name. because when Jjong first got her and didn't decide for her name yet, Roo had pee on Minho clothes and then Jjong just let Minho named her lol.

I knew that the songs were inspired by the stories he heard during Blue Night, but i didn’t know all the details so thank you for that. Its super interesting hearing your dissections/ translations of each song since I’m not korean. I'm learning new things even after all these years of listening to jjong's music :) Can’t wait for Story Op. 2!

He used to say byulroo is just an ok looking dog that’s why the name is perfect for her 🤣 tho he often got into twitter fights back in the day everytime someone makes fun of roo (specifically the way she looks 😂). Twitter jonghyun was something else i swear like new gen stans would get a stroke lol 2. Skeleton flower is a very prominent metaphor in jonghyun’s art. He actually is a published writer. He wrote a book called Skeleton Flower: things that have been released & set free. A lot of shawols have a skeleton flower tattoo to commemorate jonghyun. 3. I remember when i first heard happy birthday i was giggling sm bec i kept picturing jonghyun in my head singing happy birthday to mr. president, marilyn monroe style 😭😭😭 Also PD, I’m not sure if you’re up for it given that Poet | Artist is a posthumous album but it’s really worth a listen. My favorite jjong song ever is 우린 봄이 오기 전에 (Before Our Spring), which is from that album. I’m not at all a sentimental person but that song has been played thru a looot of tough times.

2025-08-27 17:21:25 +0000 UTCI loved the extra details you included with Blue Night and how you delved deep into the meanings of the album and each track!! Very integral to the project and I always appreciate the extra context. My favoite songs are Skeleton Flower by how absolutely gorgeous it is and introducing me to the cool flower itself. How it’s white but becomes transparent with the rain is so neat and fits the song so well. And the enviable passage of time. It hits even harder with Jonghyun's passing, even if that was not the original intent at the time. I also really loved 2:34, the chill and joyous vibe throughout is just so nice to listen to. I love how he plays with his voice as well. Like I said before this album and Story Op. 2 (which I’m so excited for you to get to as well!!! and I think is even better than 1 so you are in for a treat!) are such good albums for healing, relaxing and especially for these upcoming chillier fall days and nights. I truly beleive that music can hit differently depending on the environment it’s listened to in. For me, it just hits extra special then: day or night, blue sky or overcast and rainy, inside a place vs outside, etc.. For this album and Op 2 it’s with some nice comfy clothes and some coffee and something sweet. In fact, one day I went to a Cafe and ordered just that. It was chilly so I was bundled up. Once I finished enjoying my meal lol I put on my headphones and walked around, listening to this album from start to finish. I was all warm from the coffee and stuff so I was able to walk around from evening till night with no issue! It felt pretty magical!
