When Life Gives You Tangerines EP 1

Whoa I really adore this show thus far!

Comments

It’s ONLY Netflix. I don’t know why only Netflix is like this. And yeah I might have to download it, which I have avoided because it really really loses the quality of the show.. the browser plays in 4K but the download will probably be a low bitrate 1080p but I’ll probably start downloading it from EP 2

“And cry again ig” is so cute

The Amazon olympians turned cops???

Jet

Oh Jung Se is the actor of the stepdad! Yeah watching Mr plankton he’s so goofy, but now watching”Good Boy” his new action drama with Park Bo Gum ☠️ SO SHOCKING!! HE CAN BE SCARY AND INTIMIDATING ACTUALLY

Liv

Watching this show go through two generations of women and the hardships they faced and still today to be like oh yep we’re still dealing with the same issues to an extent especially for the things other women do to enforce traditional gender roles onto other women🙃 hard watch as a woman but sometimes it’s good to remind for as long as patriarchy has been controlling, there has been resistance to it as well, across generations

When I watched this show a few months ago, i treated this as something i put on in the background and only half pay attention but that was sooo not the way to go. Only after i started paying attention, after half of the episodes, did i realise the simplicity yet beauty of this show and I literally cried every episode. I'm excited to rewatch the episodes that I didn't pay attention to before (and cry again ig) !!!!

The pacing feels very much like a novel, even when they time skip I can see it being a chapter—I also don’t know the background of this show so if it’s based on a product lmk—I feel like every time I was uncomfortable or didn’t enjoy it as much, I had to keep reminding myself that it wasn’t the purpose of the show, and because it’s spanning almost two lifetimes, it’s not going to have a typical show’s pacing so things like payoffs I kept expecting, actually wouldn’t be until years down the road and ultimately that’s more realistic or true to life; these characters won’t say the ideal thing or take the best route, they act like a real person would, not at the convenience of pushing plot

Liv

It is very long, large story, and I was definitely moved by it, sometimes to tears, but there were certainly parts that were too real or hard to watch that made it painful and still going back and forth if I can take the rewatch 😅 Netflix released it in 4 batches and they kind of divvy up the story that way too; yes it is a fictional story, but it feels so much like a chronicled novel of their lives that it makes me feel odd at times or at the least learning that the viewer isn’t supposed to find catharsis

Liv

slice-of-life is my favourite genre, so glad you enjoy it as wel!! 🥺 this drama only gets stronger and more hard-hitting over time, so you're definitely in for a ride 🤭 it's one of a kind for me and veeery close to my heart... i'm so excited to have my first re-watch with you! i feel like i missed a fair amount of cultural and historical stuff during my first watch, so i'm looking forward to (hopefully) catching those nuances this time around. AAAAAAA I'M SO HYPED FOR THIS

cathy

glad I wasn't the only one who didn't really like the time jumps it just confused me but that might just be a issue on my part

Is it just me or does anyone else sometimes not understand what the scene and script mean? It feels like I have to sometimes read between the lines for this drama and that’s what I didn’t like, so I dropped it after a few episodes with another reactor, but it could also be that I’m stupid lol. I also don’t like the time transitions or at least in the beginning from what I’ve seen so far

I'm wondering... what's up with your browser or is it the internet connection? It was the same with Mr. Plankton. Every time around the last 5-10 minutes of each episode... the player starts to break down and the picture freezes, jumps or stutters. Shouldn't you fix that? It's hard to watch, you get distracted, you miss stuff and you get taken out of the immersion yourself. Switch browser maybe? Use the app? Upgrade / switch the internet connection? Or download the episodes from "somewhere" (else) so you can play them locally?

Yeom Hye-ran (ae-sun's mom) won best supporting actress for this role in baeksang awards!! young ae-sun, Kim Tae-yeon, also got nominated for best new actress. very well deserved!
