On the eliminated contestants, the two were the ones in the i-land group that were portrayed as skipping the group practice, which I found interesting. I wonder how much the behind-the-scenes are truly factored into scores/eliminations--not that I think they weren't already elimination candidates.
On the beef, I think it was real, and Mnet ran with it. The unnecessary ones feel like setups for the actual tense interactions that the audience is being primed for.
Another note that I don't think was touched, but this was the episode I began to lose my love for Sujung. It seemed like she didn't absorb or maybe didn't want to accept the feedback on the creative battle. Maybe it's her pride, maybe that's the wall she would've needed to overcome to be an idol.
And lastly, I'll drop my petty complaint here... did they just run out of budget for the creative teams' stage outfits?? What were those?? I feel like there had to have been better options. the silver could not have been comfortable to dance in and looked cheap? Ground's outfits were basic, but I could see a case to be made that their performance and creativity should be the highlight.

Mai is a Japanese name. It's technically Ma-I (ee) but its said so quickly that it generally sounds like MY so its generally pronounced the way PD says it. Basically, the way the producers say it Ma-I (ee) but the ee is more like a quick lift at the end rather than the full pronunciation of that sound.

Just to add to your words regarding Yuju…
It might be true that izna wouldn’t be the group for her.
Now looking at it back and knowing The Black Label is involved only in their music production, it is more understandable why certain contestants were not chosen to debut here.
Although now thinking of it all I lately started to realize that I am not sure what Teddy plans to do with The Black Label, so me making any associations with that was pointless.
Well… it is not that I am not sure about his plans, but more like it is obvious it is not old school hip hop coded as I hoped for 😅😅

I had to dedicated to your last point its own comment…
Mai and the MAIndset she has is truly inspirational!
Rewatching this with you is making me:
1) Hope for Fuko’s debut elsewhere even more
(by the way… last time I mentioned LingLing is rumoured for the P Nation girl group, which is not true, she is debuting elsewhere, so hopefully Fuko is still up in the air + this reminded me you mentioned Yuju and her not giving up yet… she is active on insta, therefore she is not a trainee anywhere and she seems to… I do not know actually… she does both dance and vocal covers, she appeared in a music video, I think, but that seems to be it…)
2) LIKE MAI SO MUCH! Like during this performance I thought: “Damn, girl! That is solo debut potential in 4th/5th year of izna!!
I think she would be the craziest soloist of izna.
Like Jiyoon would have that vocal focused solo for example.
Then Saebi or Jeemin might be the obvious picks to choose for the solo debut first and it would be nice for sure, but Mai having a solo would be like debuting TaeMin!

This is the episode I started to like Mai A LOT!
Her creativity and mainly her MINDSET saved it all!
Plus this was the first moment of me noticing Saebi finally!
By the way… isn’t the pronunciation of Mai more like “Mayi”.
The way you say it makes it sound like “My”.
I know that the word “my” would be transcripted into hangul as 마이, so technically it is correct, but I feel like there should be emphasis on the second syllable, like as if it was “마 이“.
Then…
I agree with your take on the Mnet editing and the thing between Jiyoon and Jungeun.
They were on bad/not the best terms, but Mnet thought: “Let’s milk it as much as possible”
But the thing with Mnet being dramatic comes also from the elimination part.
I mean the upcoming elimination and the way they handle it.
Regarding the Creative Units:
To me it is really fifty fifty and if there wasn’t the Saebi meta ball opening, I would have said they gave it to the I-Land unit to make sure they do not have to send to Ground that many (all 9) contestants…
But the opening moment saves it for me to understand why they chose them as the winner for that round.
And although it breaks my heart because of Sujung, I would most likely choose the I-Land unit too, but it was HEAVILY based on Mai being there.
Sure… Saebi had her moments, but Mai was like Jiyoon of the Eyes, Nose, Lips performance for this unit…
