I won't be able to explain it better than Irene her self. so here a quote form an interview in marie clarie last year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What do you think of the word 'Red Velvet-esque'? 🩷: In the beginning, we separated our concept into Red and Velvet, but as time passed, we ruminated on how we can show both without separating them. At that time, what was important to us was to add the grotesqueness and creepiness to the fairytale vibe. We're cute... but not cute. (Everyone laughs). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So the earie nature of red velvet songs and MV's is entirely planned & thought out. The way i personally interpreted the like a flower MV. is maybe a little different but i guess i'll give it a shot. Irene spends a lot of time watching other peoples love stories and recording them in secret (such as with the van at the beginning) but she sees the person Damon and becomes sort of obsessed with him. and very soon the recordings stop being just strangers and start being only him. it's important to notice the MV is not in chronological order but the order of the tapes suggest she discovered damon quite early. the tape order implies she basically kidnapped him after hunting him down (the tape labelled "Nosebleed" seems erroneous but it's because in the scene where she's chasing him and falls she was supposed to have a nosebleed when she looked up but Broadcast regs said no if they wanted to keep the age rating so it was cut). and she then makes damon "disappear" the how is left ambigious. and then she goes out side to actually meet the people she was taping before and discovers that if she just had the courage to go out and meet the people she would be happier (with the help of having a captive to maybe go home to). But also Irene (and Red Velvet MVs as a whole) contain an insane amout of Alice Through The Looking Glass references. "Follow the white rabbit" is a common motif becaseu as irene is the leader we all "Follow The White Rabbit" Sorry i babbled a bit.

2025-02-14 16:52:37 +0000 UTCI’d love a full breakdown of the video from fans to get an answer but I feel like there’s always a loose meaning to everything for RV like not clear cut and a bit more ambiguous, at first I thought Irene was like recording or infighting love as some kind of Cupid, but then she’s hunting damon, and I don’t know the connection for see the sun besides that connection with the sun helping the flower bloom and maybe that’s love?? But it’s also a song about self empowerment but also clearly irene has something nefarious going on that she planted the tape on him in the first place 😂 someone help

The creative director for Irene's Solo specifically was Shim Jaewon and the way Irene her self talked about it in a video where she took her Creatives Visuals director and her A&R team leader to lunch she was very involved constantly saying her keyword for the whole comeback was "Courage". The tall blonde dancer in the MV was Irene's dance teacher for this whole comeback she had to learn afro-dance from the ground up. Irene also said she had, starting form chill kill era, being constantly attending vocal lessons to find new depths to her voice, her coach was Emily Kim Yeonseo and her vocal backing is featured on calling me back as a sort of thank you.
