Friends-Only Post No. 3: We Have to Do Something
Added 2016-06-17 07:21:59 +0000 UTCHi, all--
No need to belabor the point, but this has been a pretty damned rough week. With the horrific shooting in Orlando and another in downtown Oakland, it feels like a frightening, sad, and bad time.
But we have to do something. We can't do nothing. So this month, all our proceeds are going to Equality Florida--so if you've been on the fence about picking up a shirt or another koozie, or if you've been meaning to bug somebody else about picking one up, rest assured that you're supporting a cause that's both needy and worthy. We may not be able to do much, certainly we can't do as much as we want, but we can do something.
It feels weird to have an episode on a book as light as "Money, Pizza, Respect" out in a week this heavy. The night we released it, I gave it a quick listen, as I usually try to do, and I flinched at my jokes about violence--and I winced when it was brought to our attention that we didn't properly flag the book's homophobic and transphobic language and content. A lesson learned, and I apologize again for that, and thank the people who reached out to us to correct us for doing so.
I don't really have a conclusion. It felt weird to release an angry episode on such a sad day. But I do want to say that we both hope the episode did bring a little brightness into a week that needed it, and we want to say explicitly that the kind words we heard went a long way for us. Thanks.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK
We did have our first show meet-up since our live show, and I'll share more about that when it feels a little easier to talk about having a really good time--but thanks to Champion-Tier Friend of the Show Brendan for putting the event together and to everybody else for coming out. More about this next week.
For this episode's extra-special sting ... please allow me a moment of entirely crass levity that, inter alia, demonstrates that we put significantly more effort into mocking this stupid book than anybody put into making it. Yes, it's your humble co-host cracking a beer and doing his best to do justice to the laziest page-filler of all damn time.
Probably not safe for work.
But, then, what is?
Thanks, everybody. Be safe, and take care of yourselves and each other.

It was the episode I needed that week...I was crying and so was everyone else I knew, because the queer community got hit hard. So being able to make fun of a hypocritically fatphobic bougie dude was pretty cathartic.
