Behind her, a retching sound cuts through the tension. Bailey shrieks and backs away as vomit hits the floor by her feet. Daisy now sits on the floor with her back to the wall, her mouth covered in bile. She leans over and vomits again, adding to the milky pool in front of her. The acrid smell fills the room, mixing with the lingering scent of sweat and fear.
From the hallway, a blood-curdling scream pierces the air. The young man's cries are agonizing, echoing through the walls. Rachel can hear the guttural sounds of the infected attacking, the young man’s screams growing weaker and more desperate before they finally fade away.
Ignoring the horror outside the door, Rachel rushes to the window and looks out. About three meters down, there's a small awning. It's another three to five meters to the ground from there. She calculates the drop quickly, eyes scanning the alleyway behind the house.
Turning back to Daisy, Rachel quickly checks her for any signs of bites or scratches. Daisy looks dazed but unharmed, her skin pale and clammy.
Rachel's mind races as she considers their options. They could go out the window to the awning and then to the street below. Or they could stay and fight the infected. Another option flickers in her mind—leaving Daisy behind and escaping with Bailey alone. Daisy can barely stand and will just slow them down, risking their escape.
Her eyes dart between Bailey, Daisy, and the barricaded door. Time is running out, and she needs to make a decision.
