Outbreak Scenario 10

Three months into the apocalypse, you've settled into a semblance of stability, living with a group of ten on a small farm. You all work hard, raising animals and tending to the fields, although the crops are stubbornly slow to yield their first vegetables.

Recently, another group of survivors moved into the area, setting up camp not far from your farm. Initially, the presence of more people so close did not cause any problems. But as days passed, the proximity created contention.

The first strain came over water. A water well sits on what you believed was the far edge of your territory. It appears the new group has discovered it too and has laid claim to it, even beginning to place a fence around it, so only they can access the well.

Then, the fence issue cuts deeper. One morning, you notice new posts and wire stretching across what you've always treated as part of your land. The new group has begun constructing a barrier, encroaching several yards into your territory. When confronted, they claim a misunderstanding of the boundaries, suggesting the land was unclaimed. The fence, meant for security against the undead and perhaps other humans, now marks a divide between your group and theirs.

Comments

I'd find a new water source, build a boundary of my own then poison the well. Ok I'm half joking. I would meet with their leader, but not necessarily for their group to join mine. I'd draw up a contract with clear stipulations and consequences for both parties.

Sarah Winters

This may be one of the best scenarios to date. There doesn't seem to be a clear winning option.
