Zombie Exodus: Aftermath, scene 38

Continued from scene 37 

You slide across the back of the jeep, lift your leg, and slam it against the head of the hybrid. He seems unfazed by the sole of your boot and struggles to crawl into the back with you. Portland joins you in kicking him in the head and stomping his hands. Your blows rain down on him, and each one is met with a growl. Your eyes scan the back of the jeep and lock on a trench shovel prancing around in netting. You grab the tool and slash the hybrid's fingers. After a few swings, you cleave the thumb and forefinger of his right hand. It slips off the bumper, and now he's dragging by one hand.

Gunshots erupt from the front of the jeep, and you glance over your shoulder at Jesse standing in her seat with the M-16. Just as the hybrid stands on the hood, a burst flies from the barrel of Jesse's assault rifle, striking it through the chest. The impact throws the infected off the hood, and the jeep's left front tire slams over its body. The vehicle lurches to the right. Megan topples across the driver's door, and Jesse falls over her. The jeep slides to a stop, kicking up a wave of dirt from the front.

You turn your attention to the hybrid on the bumper. With the jeep now still, it stands and crawls forward. With an overhead swing, you slam the shovel onto its skull. It buries down to its crooked nose, and it drops face forward. Your win is short-lived as you look up and see four more hybrids racing towards you, only 40 meters away.

"Get this thing moving," you shall as you turn towards the front of the jeep.

Jesse reloads the M-16 and aims past you at the road. "Duck, so I can shoot over you!"

Megan sits up in the driver's seat. "Give me a second while I —"

A hand reaches from under the jeep, grabs her arm, and pulls her over the car's side door. You hear a high-pitched scream as a stream of blood sprays up. Jesse climbs over the hood, drops off, and fires at the ground. Her face says it all: mouth open, eyes wide, shoulders slack. She fires a few gunshots and turns away from the scene beneath the jeep.

Turning back to the road behind you, you see the hybrids gaining fast. In a few seconds, they will reach the jeep.

"Jesse, get in the Jeep, now!" you shout.

She opens the driver's side door and pushes Megan's body out of the jeep. She climbs into the driver's seat and stares at the road ahead.

"We need to go," Portland says, her eyes fixed on the hybrids.

Jesse fumbles for the ignition, but the jeep won't start.
