Megan spins the wheel, causing you to lean far to the right. The M-60 fires into an old oak tree, ripping apart its branches and raining leaves in a storm around it. "On it!"
"We can't go chasing him. We need to pick up Portland and get the hell out of here before reinforcements arrive," Jesse shouts over the gunfire.
"If we let this captain live, Steven and Serena died in vain. And the captain will never stop hunting us," you say to her.
A few bullets hit the front hood of the Jeep, but Megan stays the course. Jesse swivels the machine gun and fires back at the line of West Pointers on the road. The first barrage hits three soldiers on the captain's left, and the large cartridges tear through their legs. Their screams rise higher than the rapid fire of the machine gun. The Jeep speeds towards the group, closing the distance as the engine revs with a high-pitched whine.
"I'm going to ram them!" Megan shouts. "Hang on."
With another lurch forward, the Jeep speeds straight at the captain, who turns and runs to the side of the road. His soldiers have the same idea, and in their haste, they all collide in a fight to escape the path of the Jeep. You crouch, hold onto straps on the inside wall and brace yourself against the back seat. Jesse aims the machine gun toward the tree line, cutting off their escape.
The Jeep flies into the crowd of soldiers. You feel the brief impact as the chassis shakes side to side and hear an explosion of screams all around you. After the hit, you raise your head and see the captain standing and limping away. Several soldiers run into the forest, while others lie on the road. The Jeep slows to a sudden halt, nearly propelling you over the front seat.
"I got these bastards now," Jesse shouts and fires into the tree line. Bullets strike two fleeing soldiers straight through their backs, dropping them to the grass.
The Jeep backs into a turn with a screech until it lines up sideways with the road, giving Jesse an easy shot. The captain collapses to the ground and rolls to his back, a pistol in hand. One of his legs is badly broken and bowed.
"Drop that weapon!" Jesse shouts and aims the M-60 at him.
A slow realization takes over his face, and he tosses the handgun a few feet away. "It's over. Just drive away. You've done your damage."
From a distance comes the howls of the infected, their cries spread through the forest.
"What are we doing here? The infected are coming," Jesse asks. "Can't we go get Portland and go? Do we really have to kill this guy?"
"If you're not going to kill him, I'll get out here and do it myself," Megan says.
