Zombie Exodus: Aftermath, scene 26

Continued from scene 25

Knowing you only have moments to act before they start torturing Jesse or one of the other prisoners, you look outside the tent again to plot a path towards the pile of coal. Felder, the young soldier, walks away from the front of your tent to a point outside your field of vision. With little time to waste, you crouch and step through the tent flap, keeping low as you move through camp. Your eyes scan to the left and right, watching for anyone who may notice your movement. Reaching the pile of coal, you take a few pieces and feed the fire, which roars from the added fuel. A few more pieces send it flaring even higher, and you grab the pile and shove it into the fire. Flames shoot straight up, forcing you to fall back. The intense heat hits you like a wave. Embers shoot from the middle of the fire and strike outside the mess tent. So far, your plan is working.

“Who’s watching the fire? Get over there and get it under control!” shouts the captain.

Footsteps pound across the dirt, and soldiers shout as they rush to the campfire, which now burns higher than the height of the mess tent. Using it as a diversion, you break along the back of other tents towards another large tent. The flicker of a shadow passes through the material, and you drop to the ground, flattening against it. Lifting one of the flaps, you look inside and see a dozen or so long wooden crates piled in columns of four. You’ve seen ones like this before. When you were still a child, you lived among a group of militants who used to traffic guns between settlements. They stored firearms and explosives in long crates like these. Standing at the front of the tent looking out and away from you is another young soldier. She can’t be older than eighteen and holds a rifle in her shaky hands. A walkie-talkie crackles on her belt.

“It’s Megan, I mean…McLaren. I’m keeping watch, sir. Yes, sir. Not yet, sir. McLaren out.” She shakes her head and says aloud, “Megan, what the hell have you gotten yourself into?”

When you peek around the tent, you can already see the central campfire being died out by several soldiers. You need to cause more of a distraction. You may be able to sneak into the weapons tent, grab a weapon, and start firing. If you really want to get creative, you could check the crates for explosives and start lighting them up. You also need to worry about this soldier. It sounds like she doesn’t want to be here, but she still could be a problem.

Reading knowing that Meagan‘s hands are shaking, it reminds me of a scene from Metal Gear Solid with Meryl and solid snake. Can you shoot me rookie? I’m not a rookie. Your hands are shaking, your eyes are shaking. You haven’t even taken the safety off rookie
