Hello Patrons!
Well I have to say I'm in a fine mood this Friday... I'm absolutely buzzing with excitement to reveal the first two songs (albeit not in their final forms) from our new album THE WORLD CONSPIRES.
Here's a little bit of background about both the songs...
Better Man is a feminist anthem.
It comes from personal experience, from being a woman in a world where sometimes you have to take on both genders to get where you want to be. Woman are constantly under pressure from society to be “feminine but not too much or you’ll be unattractive”, “be assertive but don’t be a bitch”, “be sexual but don’t be a slut”.
It seems sometimes that women have to be so many things and sometimes that is detrimental to ourselves. This song comes from several experiences where I’ve had to be a “better man” than some of the men I’ve encountered.
I hope it speaks to both men and women who’ve been in similar positions. It’s not meant to be a dig at men, but more about how we view gender, specifically how women have been treated in the past and today. It’s a call for change and empowerment.
Box of Razorblades is song is about the pain of bearing a secret and feeling the need to destroy yourself because of it. As you guys know, I have personally struggled with depression, self-harm and alcoholism due to a Bi-Polar disorder which I'm finally getting a handle on. Music has been an outlet for this emotion, and this song is a direct reference to that. It’s an ode to hopelessness, possibly the most heartfelt song I've ever written - there's been times where I've almost choked up on stage during singing it. I love it though, it's so bitter-sweet and raw.
Anyway... I'm in a really good space these days and very very excited about the new album. Can't wait for you all to hear it.
