Alpha Preview: dndbeyond Importer (Chrome Extension)

This is an alpha preview of the chrome extension that parses content on dndbeyond.com (currently: monsters and spells), and imports those into an open and readied Foundry VTT chrome tab.

Be aware: Things will break and functionality is not guaranteed. This is a preview alpha for my patreons to have a first look at the chrome extension to import monsters and spells into your Foundry VTT game - with a single mouse click.

Pre-requisites:

- Google Chrome, Firefox will be supported down the road, but I want to get the base functionality fixed first

Installation

Unzip the attached ZIP somewhere you remember

Follow this excellent documentation to install a developer extension:  https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/getstarted

Done!

Usage

You will see a dndbeyond Icon in your browser extension toolbar, this will be a red B. That means that you haven't set a target Foundry tab yet, let's do that first. Navigate to a different target with a Foundry VTT game open and running and click once on the red B: It is highlighted now and you are ready to import, everything it will import will be sent to that target tab.

Open a new tab and surf to dndbeyond.com, search for any monster and admire the most beautiful button on the whole page: "FVTT Import" directly next to the monster's name. Hit it! Wait a bit (the image loading part is slow due to needing a proxy and I will find a better solution for hit, have a little patience, a couple of seconds should do), and then have the new, imported monster within your world. Move it to a compendium, or unleash it on your unprepared party!

It's not working!

- Check your extensions: Go to the burger menu again (three dots), then go to "More tools...", then "Extensions". Search for the

"D&DBeyond | Foundry VTT Bridge 0.2.1"

extensions, and have a look if there are any errors. If yes: Please report them, with information what you did exactly on discord.

If it's not working, try having both tabs on the same browser window and not in separate Chrome windows. Clear the errors (see 'It's not working' above, reload the extension, reload both the dndbeyond and foundry tabs, and try again).

Furthermore: Please report any bugs to my discord, and I will try to incorporate any fixes necessary. I am looking for parsing errors (there will be many), and stuff it does plain wrong.

Not implemented at all: Lair Actions! And probably more that I already forgot, but the base stuff should work alright!

I know that there will be plenty of errors, and I won't be able to work on each issue with the same priority. This release is just a teaser to thank you great patreons, and to provide some "meat" in order to fuel a nice, warm feeling inside your bodies:

"This will be worth it."

Thank you, everyone!
