Their names are from Sumerian words, which have quite a lot of meanings.
"Usumgal" means monster, solitary, sovereign and dragon (referring to the last stage) while "Nuz" is egg: Kali didn't know which name to give it. The Metroid was making a sound similar to "Nuz" and here the name~

Kali'Khar is a very solitary dragoness, she has been betrayed multiple times even from her own children and her only mate and doesn't believe any form of society can survive in the long time.
After travelling the Universes, Multiverses and Omniverses for billion of years all alone she found these two cuties: this "mini-Ridley" (as I like to call it since I can't find his specie's name) was inspired by Metroid Other M story: they are an intelligent species, but what happens when they grow all on their own?
Kali'Khar saved her and the Metroid in an abandoned laboratory which was going to be destroyed because was believed a Metroid colony was present, but in reality only this larvae was still alive.
To Kali these two are just lost children who didn't deserve such a fate, even if this wasn't applicable for her past childhood. She took them with her.
She also knew what these two would be able to become, in addition the Metroid has a Queek genetic markup: not wanting to make them grow, she decided to alter their genes to make them stay in their larval stage and be her pets.
Her actions are selfish nonetheless, but she still loves them to bits and is very reluctant to show other people her precious children who she keep hidden and safe in a pocket dimension of her body.
